Well, now you're talking, with the sun out, it would be rude not to participate in this National day.... Oh, it's not just about alcoholic beverages? #ahwell Beverages have existed, in one form or another, almost since the beginning of mankind. Of course, people had to drink something, so before there was Coca-Cola there was water, simple as that. However, as the millennia went by, people began to create new and interesting types of beverages. Today, beverages are divided into at least 19 categories, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, caffeinated beverages, barley-based beverages, maize beverages, rice drinks and so on. The first recorded beers were made in ancient Egypt, where it was so weak that even children drank it. However, it is suspected that beer could date back to the Neolithic period. The world’s first coffee as we know it today is thought to have been made by a Yemeni named Omar in the 16th century. Coca-Cola, on the other hand, was created relatively recently, in the late 19th century. Few among us can imagine our lives without at least on of these three beverages in it, which just goes to show how very important beverages are in our culture, and have been, for hundreds and thousands of years. This week has been about fitting everything into 3 days this week with Bank Holiday Monday and boys being off school due to their school being used for voting, but hey, let's not make the, Voting-and-children-being-away-from-their education-an-extra-day, political! #justsayin So the BIG BANG on Monday in Garforth (so we all initially thought, it was just Garforth) I don't know what was more scary, the two big blasts or seeing most of my neighbours in their bedroom attire out in the street! If anything, it brought community together; even if it was reported some people were running up and down the street bewildered by what had happened. I make a request, can people come out again on, New Years Eve please #AuldlangSyne.... minus the PJ's #notnaked!
If anything, it certainly gave us a fright and something to talk about the next day, and also an educational talk in school to children about the explanation of what a sonic boom is! Don't want to hear one again for a while though....! We welcome 3 new members to The Main Deal this week Tory Jane Beauty - http://www.toryjanebeauty.com/ Garforth Tigers ARL - http://www.garforthtigers.com/ All Protection Roofing and Building Services - I've used these guys and would recommend them La Bella Vita Released their new Website this week, check it out http://www.la-bella-vita.co.uk/ courtesy of LS25 Webdesign and the lovely Matt Gibbons #usinglocal Main Street Festival - off for a meeting with the Garforth Arts Festival and some great local volunteers tonight to talk about where we are at with the Street Festival which will take place on the 2nd July - some great live performances and fun things happening, I may be able to release some more information later in the week after tonights meeting #watchthisspace The Station House Cafe are now up and running on Facebook and Twitter as well as Instagram - I had a lovely Saturday morning training Jo Baranelli, but the best of all was I was served a 2 cheese and Salami Bread and a Red Wine Cheese cake with several cups of tea all served in/on vintage crockery... I was in heaven. Can't all my Training sessions be like this? Lots of great things to come from Station House, so keep up date with them on Social Media. #WOTS (word on the street) Check out this weekends weather forecast - #vitaminDishere https://www.facebook.com/BBCLookNorthYorkshire/videos/10154203660419626/ Opium Beauty open their doors on Saturday, where Razers Hairdressers used to be, Becky and her team are not new to Garforth, they all used to work together up at Essentials before they closed, They they have just brought their clients and skills further down the street Pop along in the afternoon, say hello to the team, I hear they have something called a Prosecco van to help with their opening day Rumour has it - Vogue bar is to be a brothel mid week..... This has to be as funny as the person who put up the advert in one of the windows some time ago about their being an adult shop soon opening! As usual it is a rumour, the owners of Vogue are aware of. As mentioned in previous posts, Vogue Bar is just a bar, it's not something massive, it won't be making too much noise and the space their opening up in, isn't massive either, so just wait and see before making judgement We want to encourage what comes to Garforth, and the fact we have something new and different, we should be excited. More Rumours about Wetherspoons Pulling out again, there is nothing to say they have pulled out and I have confirmation from a good source that nothing has changed... be patient, when all the hurdles have been jumped then they'll have it up and running in no time. Garforth is not the only new Wetherspoons to be happening across the UK So Labour is in again for Garforth and Swillington Ward, fair play to Sarah Field, she certainly walked her campaign were I only saw a tweet from Conservatives whilst eating breakfast in Pauls... oh Sorry Paula's! Whoever you voted, we can only hope the party, do Good for Garforth You may have seen our Garforth in Bloomers out in force this week with planting new flowers and planting a lovely Rowan tree which was donated. I believe they were moaned at for planting it and were asked in what I believe, a rude manner, who gave them permission to plant it (LCC council did as part of an ongoing regeneration scheme on LCC land) It's good to know most of us are extremely supportive of what Garforth in Bloom do to make Garforth look beautiful..... But like I always say, 'I'm not a bottle of wine, I can't please everyone' #beverageday Nothing in planning this week, lots of things still in for consideration Good Luck to all year 6 children in all of our Garforth Primary Schools next week for their SATS TESTS By shopping local you're looking after our local economy, look at all the great local jobs that have been coming up on the Garforth Live board over the last few weeks! Until next week........
