About the Choir
GCC was formed back in September 2015 and has been growing bigger and stronger ever since.
The choir was formed to encourage all local people to come together, have fun, sing, release energy; a place to enjoy, switch off and a place where people could meet like minded people, make new friends and help reduce loneliness and isolation.
The main aim is to come together to share in the joy of singing a wide range of music including gospel, soul, reggae and contemporary and classic popular music. Working towards performances and recordings if the group chooses, this group is suitable for people of any ability or experience level.

FAQs
'I want to be in the choir and pay full membership, but can't commit every week'
This will be fine as long as there is a core of members attending each week.
Even if for example all the tenor and bass singers are away one week, that will mean the nature of the rehearsal will change, however the choir leader should still be able to make a viable rehearsal in these circumstances by being flexible and working with the alto and soprano singers on their parts, or choosing pieces that focus more heavily on those ranges etc.
'Can we have a taster session for new members going forward to encourage more people?'
New members can pay the single session fee, which is currently £7.00, to attend one session to find out if it is for them. If they wish to continue, they must then pay for the remaining term’s sessions in advance before the next session. Regular members must pay for the entire terms sessions in advance – they cannot pay a single session fee per week. This is to encourage commitment and to ensure that the costs of all the sessions can be covered each term.
Dedicated taster sessions that run at different times or on different days, that can be structured differently for specific target audiences can be organised but that will depend upon the choir leader’s availability, and the availability of the spaces and equipment.
'What type of songs will we be singing?'
Brilliant question! The answer is whatever people want to sing (within reason.) This is the Garforth Community Choir, and I would hope that everyone’s suggestions can be included at some point during the sessions. The choir “Director” is there to help the choir sing the songs they would like to sing, not to dictate. She or he will of course have many suggestions and ideas, but ultimately the choir leader is working for you, not the other way around.
