Have fun this Easter - Click on this weeks VLOG
Happy Sports Relief Day - Watch tonight on BBC 1 from 7.00pm at all the amazing people who have challenged themselves so much to raise money for such wonderful cause.
At school today parents were encouraged to run around school with their children. I did a little skipping to, Double Dutch team in the 80’s me you know; still got it! But boy after running around school a few times and donating money for doing so, I certainly earned my little trip to Dumouchel afterwards for a cinnamon roll…..
I had a nice evening with Gymophobics this week, helping in the celebrations of their first year in business. I can’t believe it’s been a year already! They have such great success stories and these successes are all over the wall for you to see on your way up the stairs to the gym. On Tuesday I watched this amazing and empowering video about how we, as women, should embrace our bodies and not strive for perfection, what is perfection besides other people’s opinions anyway? A touching and very moving story. I also enjoyed a lovely slice of birthday cake and a glass of Prosecco to help in the celebrations. Gymophobics is lovely place to be, with friendly and informative staff helping you on the way, with no opinions, just feel good tips and advice, helping you enjoy fitness and embrace your body.
2 Cakes down this – I’m embracing local
This week I went and had a new treatment. Not something I do very often, but I was intrigued by this treatment, Derma planing that which keep getting bandied about by the Celebs, again, not something I do often; take notice of the celebs, but it was something that seemed right up my street and would help my skin. Not having the best skin in the world, Derma Planing is a treatment that basically removes a layer of skin and hair fuzz with a small blade. I loved it, my skin felt fabulous later, and a few days on I have a new found love for my old products that weren’t working that are now helping improve my skin tone, once again – and don’t just think this is for women, Oh no, plenty of men are having it too – Speak to Jo Baker https://www.facebook.com/JoBakerPermanentMakeup/
Or Call 07495 825 950 Also known as Beauty and the Beard and open until 9pm most evenings
A bit about me...........
I don’t share myself very often; I’m always too busy sharing everyone else.
But from time to time, a fair few people ask how I came up with the idea of, The Main Deal, how did it start, is it my full time job?
20 years ago this year, I came over the Pennines from The Wirral (plastic scouser). People say the Wirral is the posh side of Liverpool, sadly, it really isn’t. It’s no different, we just perhaps finish our words with the appropriate endings, like D and G and not everything with Kkkkkkkk, i've never looked back.
After years of working in Leeds, and then being a stay at home for nearly 10 years, I lived my day differentrly in more ways than one, not only being a new mum, but it these changes that made me release what we had, here in Garforth. So much was on offer on our doorstep, when you have children, you tend to stay local and this in theory, was when my love for local was born. To cut a very long story short, I knew that when the youngest #thomboy was at school I would be slowly kicked, well tickled by the husband to think about going back to work. I knew whole heartily that I wasn't going to be back working in the city again. I wanted to run my own business from home to ultimately be here for my family. Having no other option of child care, I originally started with the small breakfast company called, Good Morning, some of you may remember or even ordered a breakfast online ? Good Morning, bought only local Garforth produce and then sold it as a breakfast, every Sunday morning. It helped local companies and told the community, how good eating local was.
After 18 months of running Good Morning, I knew I could now stretch further with the idea of cross marketing and letting people see local more and not just from the food aspect, we had so much more on offer. I love cooking, I love local and my background is IT, Marketing, Admin and I’m full of crazy ideas, so Good morning was the platform for The Main Deal being born and putting Good Morning to bed …….. 4 years on, I’m just as crazy and slightly mad, but The Main Deal gives me such satisfaction and not many people get that. It allows ideas to flourish, it allows me to do other things in our community and I meet some great local people. Most importantly, I’m building trust and great relationships in the community I love calling my home. #onwardsandupwards with your support too

I hear, The Heers are moving home, including their little shop on Fairburn Drive. I will be sad to see them go, a lovely couple who I have always got along with as have my boys. It would be good for someone to take this on still as a convenience store but with may be more on offer such as the fruit and veg that is no longer available! #revamp please, someone.
More news to come when I return on Garforth Parish Council - where it's all at!
Last blog before the Easter Holidays – back on Friday 20th April
Well I've missed this one - I've been running around all day like some loon. From school runs, to Pilates, (Ooo my hips) then work, then out measuring half of Main Street - don't ask, I'm sure you can read on Garforth Gossip, we might have been perceived as 3 mad people walking up and down with a measuring tape; I wonder what we'll be accused of #garfeast2018 Team. We all stopped for a Cortodo in Cielo, then I was back to work, then to school, as #thomboy was poorly, then back home to do another school run and then piano lessons and I've made a homemade steak and mushroom pie for dinner!...... World Sleep Day... not sure I could have fitted it in.
NO BODY mention the S word……. As of this morning, we’re now on an amber warning #eyestothesky Is it because I mentioned sun last week? Copy and paste the article below to see what YEP is predicting this weekend

A bit of a short blog this week due to - too many things happening all in one day
I hope you have a great weekend and I hope that the snow stays away
Ok, who opened their curtains on Thursday morning and said rude words under their breath, whilst they could hear their kids screaming with joy in the background that school may be having another snow day?!
As much as the snow caused major chaos making Garforth a large car park for a few hours in the morning, eventually the sun came out and it melted very quickly.
A sun request going in upstairs going forward. A lot of my neighbours have daffodils in their window in vases trying to encourage spring. The funny thing is, in certain parts of the country this weekend, it is forecast to be up to 15 degrees!! #Madweatherweek
Yesterday we celebrated, International Women’s Day – definitely something that should be celebrated. Each year women are gaining more confidence to do greater things and having the support to do it. If you have a look at the Nobel Prize’s post about these fabulous women of the world who have, for a long time being changing the world. https://twitter.com/NobelPrize/status/971614370462617600 #amazingwomen
I look forward to Phil Lyn from Double A Window cleaning coming on board next week. – Phil is highly recommended in Garforth and the happiest chappy you could ever meet. I have personally used Phil myself for specialist cleaning of all my UPVC - top guy – Check out his website http://www.doubleawindowcleaning.co.uk/
I met up with Claire Rhodes from Luxe Hair and Skin Care who has set up her business at, The Holiday Inn. Claire is a lovely young lady who has been studying hard to achieve great things for herself and her children and has taken the move to become self-employed – check out her website for all the skin care treatments she offers, which some, I haven’t seen anywhere else in Garforth before https://www.luxeclinic.co.uk/
The Garforth Feastival Team and I had a fantabulous meeting, at The Station House Café on Monday – Jo and Luigi were the best hosts serving marinated Rosemary and garlic Chicken and hot potatoes accompanied by homemade Focaccia and a Mozzarella and tomato salad and then…………. Homemade, Jo styley, Key Lime Pie………..
I hear the Pie competition went extremely well at Quirky's last night with 48 people judging, well done to Starkey’s Pies in Sherburn in Elmet who took the winning pie certificate home.
Watch out for Rebecca from The Gin Shack popping up again on the 28th March for Beer and Wine Tasting evening at Quirky from 7.00-9.30pm – buy tickets here http://www.quirkyales.com/
Next week, www.flutterbabies.co.uk have their highly recommended baby yoga course back in Garforth for a new term. I took part in baby yoga classes with the #thomboys and it was really beneficial www.flutterbabies.co.uk - good for a Mother’s Day gift too if you’re at a loss of what to buy
The weekly Chair Based Exercise in the Library every Wednesday will be on at 1.30pm a great little workout and good to meet new local people.
Nothing new in planning – there was however doubt earlier in the week about a false planning decision notice that had been put up on lampposts on Woodlands Drive about a multi storey car park coming in the woods off woodlands drive…. It was quite funny, but I’m not sure a’ residents saw the funny side
Also some had put a post-up about McDonalds coming to Garforth – I can’t even be bothered going into this, they’re really NOT coming to Garforth
I see someone is in the new houses on, Green Lane next to East Garforth train station and the others are all saying, sold! I hope they got them for a song and a dance
Ninelands Road is starting to look very different trees have now being chopped down! I also see as well as demolishing the buildings that were left, they have already started working on the drainage... doesn't take long.
I read this week on Garforth Gossip the new Manager of Lidl had introduced himself. Thankfully most posts on the thread were kind, but he still had to hold onto his hat for the few who, if they ran as much as their mouth did, they would be extremely fit! #eyestothesky
Look at last week’s blog for Mother’s Day gift ideas if you are still yet to buy something for that lovely woman in your life. I will be spending it eating and drinking - Happy Mother’s Day you lovely women.
I hope you do enjoy reading the weekly blog, last month we hit and all time high with 1,000 people reading, so thank you. If you would like to see anything added, please do click and comment below and let me know
Until Next week – when we’ll be half way through March – May the sun shine
#snowday and then another and then another; don't think I'll put a picture up of snow, I think we've seen enough already! But we have to learn to love them and not loathe them. I always pray that if we’re going to get some snow, do it properly, dump a load so we can go sledging; which we did, and build a snowman.woman.cat; which we did. Yes, we built a cat, lying on the floor, so much easier to mould the snow that was really hard to mould! So a sleeping cat we did… No, there are no pictures, I didn’t say it was a successful snowcat!
Sadly, when the schools decide to shut we have a heap of people snowing on, sorry, moaning on, and on, and on, and on about how awful it is that schools shut and back in their day they had bombs coming down and still went to school - yes someone actually said this!
The thing is, we’re in 2018 not 1941 and schools really don’t want to shut, do they? They have things in place if our children are late twice in one week, so they are never going to close the schools on a whim. Decisions are made on circumstances and mainly taken from a safety aspect, one being, are there enough staff in to keep our children safe? I don’t suppose safety was considered back then when bombs, ‘may’ have been dropping from the air! So when our schools close, we must respect and have a better understanding, and it's for a really good reason.
We will never been truly geared up for horrendous snow conditions, we’re not Canada who know year on year, the snow comes, stays and you can drive a bus through the middle of a 40ft snow wall. Do you think our local council or government would pay out for more resources that would sit in a shed for months and possibly years just in case we have bad snowfall? We certainly need to be thankful that Leeds City Council were working round the clock with their gritters making sure all major roads in and out of towns were gritted.
Most businesses are understanding when time is taken off because schools close, and I know, not always an easy task, especially if you’re in an industry where your job means you have to care for people’s well-being. Let’s hope spring is on the way, who knows, next week the new Mac might be out and the winter coat can be put away for another year #hereshoping Stay safe this weekend.
Mother’s Day coming up on Sunday 11th March, look local first – We have so much on offer locally. Here are few hints, tips and ideas;
I’m waiting to hear if our Restaurants and Café’s will be doing something special for Mother’s Day, so I will update as soon as I know. Station House have come back to say unfortunately, they won’t be doing anything for Mothers Day #sadface
