OK, who ordered the rain? We’ve had such wonderful weather over the last few weeks, but I hear it’s only going to be a blip and we’ll be back to warmer climates over the Bank Holiday weekend, MAY it continue!
This week has been quite busy. Meeting new potential shop owners (fingers crossed in planning) Feastival Meeting, sharing and updating systems with my new branding (website will be updated soon) and the letter writing for the new compliance with GDPR, now everyone has had one of these from someone! As well as talking to potential new members, oh, and having my roots covered and my nails done; well I do have to look after myself from time to time! Whilst also preparing for the half term with the #thomboys next week - #jugglejuggle
Not a great topic…..
Please be aware - when the nice weather comes along, so do potential Burglars. Shed and garage doors are open more and sometimes we forget to lock them up. We have had a few sheds in the area over the last few weeks that have been broken into. Be more secure and vigilant and if you see anything suspicious, you can go online and reports it to the West Yorkshire Police 101 Live Chat line – https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101LiveChat
By reporting it, you’re helping, as they can then collect a list of information that has come in if something, somewhere goes wrong and the information you give may be valuable.
On the subject of sun, please also be aware of children playing outside their homes. It has been lovely to see and hear kids playing in their streets in these warm evenings when they're back from school. It’s nice to see kids playing in the sun, in the fresh air and away from technology, let them play safely by driving careful in our neighbourhood

Bad planning by National Rail
Quite a few people annoyed this morning that the new timetable didn't quite work out too well for East Garforth Passengers as the train that was meant to stop, didn't!
It's bad enough for a fair few people that they have taken a train off the timetable, Between 8-00 - 9.00 am and now the new timetable looks like this:
East Garforth to Leeds
8.16 and 8.47
Garforth Station to Leeds
8.12, 8.18, 8.28, 8.39, 8.43, 8.49
Very annoying for East Garforth Passengers, When there would be no possibility for local people to drive to Garforth to catch one of the many trains offered as there are no parking spaces for Local people.
I think National Rail need to understand that many local people use East Garforth Train station just as much as Garforth and most walk to catch the train.
I know these changes have been made nationally, but I wonder locally, anything that can be done about this? Especially when we get 241 news houses built with more people travelling from East Garforth as it will be the nearest station!
The Train strike certainly didn’t help yesterday either, 1 train every hour and then you can just have 2 carriages #sardinestocity
Our local councillors have been referring all complaints to our MP, please do send yours it ‘may’ help bring change!
May you have a fabulous bank holiday weekend and if the forecast is right, it should be a beer in hand, sunhat on and kids in the paddling pool kind of weather
We’ll be back on Friday 8th June
Until then………… Be kind, it's easier

The Main Deal in Garforth has helped grow and support local businesses since 2014, and it encouraged the community to look local first. Garforth needs to add and improve it's night time offering, and by having an upmarket bar with food will only add to this much needed night time vibe. Keeping people local and using local helps give Garforth a sustainable future and the times it is open and the clientele it will bring will have NO impact on any other activities going on around it. We also like to encourage more independent businesses into the town. Having a balance is important and by adding this new venture, we start to set the balance back again. in my research I see, the applicant already runs a very successful business in another town which is proven to help bring local people together and eat locally which is very important for any town, as it encourages people to also use the other businesses, as it gives them another reasons to come in. We need a sustainable future for our families and younger generation. If planning allowed a huge Weatherspoons to be built that is next to a residential area with no parking facilities then this small bar requirement should be considered whole heartily.
If you agree with what I have added above, it would be nice to see more support of this new proposed independent business. Here’s the link - Today is the last day for comments
Until next week.............. Enjoy the sun
Sharing the information - Many people spend time stressing over their diet, and what they should or shouldn’t eat, mainly because today’s world is filled with magazine covers sporting perfectly toned, perfectly tanned models that constantly make us feel inadequate. The various health food fads that seem to come and go every few weeks definitely don’t help, either—as it turns out, a gluten-free diet is not particularly good for anyone who isn’t actually allergic to gluten, juice cleanses deprive us of the protein and fat our bodies need to function properly, and taking too many vitamin supplements just makes our urine expensive when our bodies flush the excess. If you, like many people these days, are beginning to feel disillusioned with all of these things.
I did promise myself this year, I would give more time to myself, by looking after myself more ( I always look after everyone else) So I went down the line of, Eat less, move more. I’m definitely moving more!
Just need to concentrate on the eating less.
How Fabulous was Tour De Yorkshire? I’ve never seen Main Street look so busy; ever! From the top to the bottom. People were so engaged, with the cycling, the media vans, chanting, cheering, waving and singing along to the bands that were performing from, Arts Live. Well done all, what a fabulous turn out, and thank you to Mr Sunshine who also made an appearance… he brings out the best in people.
Very important to also hear that our local businesses did really well – now we just need the same effort, sunshine and people for the 14th July please – Garforth Feastival. Find out who’s coming by clicking on the button

I hear, 450Degrees Pizza Restaurant will be opening soon – keep following them for details of their launch https://www.facebook.com/450degrees/ In case you didn’t know anything about them, and I’m surprised you haven’t noticed. Danny, has made an amazing transformation of the old, Vape Lounge opposite Garforth Medical Centre, many of you will remember it as the old Indian restaurant, many moons ago. It looks so good and I’m dying to taste one of their rustic pizzas cooked in Betty!! Follow them to keep updated
I see The Gasgoine has shut its doors for refurbishing? It’s not a pub I have been in many times, maybe twice in 20 years! I hope its refurb will encourage more families to dine, especially with the new, FlyLine opening up within the next couple of months. It appears the play park will be gone, but who’s to say it won’t be better? I’m personally not keen on children in a pub if they’re not having something to eat, I think it’s because I spent some of my childhood waiting in a car for my Dad, who was in the pub! Not the best of memories! #80schild
Everything seems on schedule for autumn opening at Thorpe Park, Retail Park - It will be nice to have some brands closer as well as the cinema. I do like Brands, but I LOVE local more so not much will detract me away too much and I hope it won't detract you too much either.
Planning application still not been signed off yet for the new wine bar proposed on Chapel Close, I have everything crossed this goes ahead… more choice, options and fun for our night time vibe here in Garforth.
Enjoy the Euro vision song contest this Saturday, I love the campness, the fun and the madness! Can we make it with this years UK's song?
Until next week .............................
OMG – I don’t use this text speak very often. But OMG, Garforth is well and truly shouting and being well and truly put on the map of Leeds today for 2 reasons and it’s a Bank Holiday Weekend!
This Morning we woke up to the results of Garforth & Swillington Independent party bringing the results home; in a pretty big win, whatever you supported, the numbers of the independents should certainly shout out to all parties that they need to pull their fingers out in towns! and of course, we see TDY come through our streets.
This morning’s ladies race came through and Main Street was buzzing. What a lovely, lovely picture, to see everyone out cheering and whooping the ladies on. Spend money locally people this is a perfect opportunity to do so. Our local cafes are all geared up to feed you and there are some fabulous offers to have in all of them. Don’t forget the Station House Café and Freshly Made are also catering for your TDY needs.
We have a podcast up today and here are some bits of information about what’s going on as the itinerary for today’s events was only released last night; after my podcast recording.
