Our second blog
Recent data shows that over 140 children per day, some just one year old, are having decayed teeth removed.
Good dental health habits can be formed by taking a child to the dentist from an early age.
The Dental Check Up By 1 campaign encourages just that by booking your child’s first appointment by their first birthday.
Why by the age of one?
The advice from Public Health England is that your child should see a dentist from six months because that’s when the first teeth usually come through. By the age of one, we should be seeing most of your baby’s front teeth.
What can the dental professional do at such a young age?
This first appointment is a chance to meet the team who will potentially be looking after your child’s teeth from now on. Your child may feel confident enough to allow a look inside the mouth, but not to worry if that isn’t the case. All children are different and at Enhance Dental we believe it can still be a positive just coming for a few minutes and soaking up the environment. Also, don’t worry if there are any tears or your child’s asleep when they come – we’ve seen it all. So that aside, this visit is also an opportunity to chat about brushing, food and drink.
What happens if we don’t manage a look?
Sometimes this happens at this first visit and sometimes it happens at the next few visits. All we can say is – don’t worry- it happens. Then, one day, complete cooperation. They don’t want to leave!
Why not book your child in to see your dentist. Even if your child is older than one, regular visits to your dentist are key to developing habits that lead to a lifetime of good oral health.
Great information from our Guest Blogger, Enhance Dental, we look forward to receiving their third and final blog when we return on Friday 7th June and we'll have a news of Few Gifts Launch -
What I wouldn't give for some bread or cake right now! I have been 'doing' a Keto for the past 8 weeks, which means very low carbs, and no sugar.......I've not had Dumouchel bread for all this time, it's starting to make me twitch! I'm wondering whether I can give Thierry a challenge and get him to make some low carb bread... or just make it myself! I am please with the benefits it has given me have; even if my other half is ahead of me by miles.... taking each day and exercising when I can, is all helping. I don't like the word diet, I like changing habits. It's all going in the right direction... my wrists look amazing!
I've had some great meetings this week. I received my holiday tickets from the lovely Natalie, our local travel counsellor. I had an introductory meeting with one of our local accountant, Cutler & Co. I also went to a lovely little independent ladies clothes shop in Swillington, called Style Attic, a lovely little boutique, something different, definitely worth a visit. It's just on the parade of shops where the launderette has been for many years. I also had a lovely meeting with another new independent coming to Garforth, let's get it all through planning first and then we can shout #charcuterie #watchthisspace
Could This Be A Good Time To Invest In Your Smile?
13 May – 13 June 2019 is National Smile Month - A charity campaign which is dedicated to improving oral health and promoting the importance of a healthy mouth.
So, was there ever a better time for you and your family to embrace the scheme’s three key messages?
Why oral health matters
We all probably know what we should be doing, but research has shown other benefits of good oral health that you might not be aware of:
A healthier life…… The mouth is the window to the body, so having good oral health can lower the risk of heart disease, strokes, diabetes, dementia and problems during pregnancy.
A longer life……Those who have a full set of teeth at 74 years old are significantly more likely to reach 100.
A happier life….. A healthy mouth doesn’t only have physical benefits. It also improves our outlook on life. A positive influence on our confidence, relationships and careers - a healthy smile that you’re proud of.
For those of you behind with check-ups or looking to improve your smile?
Well make today the day to contact your friendly dental practice. Whether it be getting back into the habit of the routine check- up, seeing your hygienist or improving your smile with cosmetic treatment like whitening and teeth straightening.
‘A Smile is Happiness You’ll Find Right Under Your Nose’
Lots of Gin events coming up, in and around the area – so follow our Events page on Facebook to find out about them and a lot more things going on locally https://www.facebook.com/themaindeal/ in the next couple of weeks!
So Emsley’s old premises, next to the Good Food store, will be getting a traditional sweet shop! I hope it works well in this little spot. Something new and different too. I’m hoping it has an old fashioned feel, with bags and quarters… something traditional will go a long way.
Reed Rains old premises is also underway for change, as it puts up the 'under offer' sign this week, as the price tag for it’s yearly rent is high, I’m just hoping it’s not a franchise or a chain; unless something different, we don't have already!
So as of last week, we are excited to announce the new independent company coming into Garforth, I’m keeping the premises quiet for a little while longer - but you can follow them and see what they will have to offer https://www.themaindeal.co.uk/items-i-need.html #Fewgifts
This is me signing off until Friday 7th June – I’m off to a country where the hills are alive with the sound of music ; )
Until then, enjoy the spring break, the lovely weather is back again next week, fingers crossed!
I think we should have a 4 day week every month, i'm starting to get used to them!
I’m not sure what’s been more in the news this week, baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor or Liverpool FC’s 4-0 win - whatever the news, good news is always something we should celebrate, the things that make us smile, cheer, and talk about; but just so you know, just because I was born on the Wirral, I didn’t come out of the womb wearing red or blue….. Is Ian Rush still playing? #clueless
Well last Friday’s TDY looked amazing; as I watched on twitter from the comfort of an A&E Chair in Pontefract….. it really wasn’t planned that way! If you have boys, you will understand they are built to scare the living day lights out of you, let’s just say, youngest #thomboy had an argument with a lunch trolley, luckily, nothing broken #thankthelord but it meant, we missed all of TDY and we just about scraped through the roads closing in Pontefract! I hope one day we will get it back again. Just a pity the important bits coming through Kippax and Garforth were not shown on ITV4…. Oops!
A great local business raffle
The Garforth Feastival Team, have come up with a great local business raffle, it will help with our campaign to use less plastics this year and you, as a business are in with a chance of having your company logo on hundreds of tote bags – HOW TO:
Numbers currently available are on our FB page - https://www.facebook.com/Garfeast/
You may have read in other blogs, my enthusiasm for Garforth premises and trying to get someone in one, I have been trying to get an independent business in to sell great things and do great things, and over the past 18 months, we’ve been so close, and then the premises have either been taken by someone else or they just haven’t been quite right, But now I can happily say, we have found somewhere, for something new, and something we don’t have and of course, independent – more news and a launch will happen in June #watchthisspace #happyskip
Not such great news
On the downside, we may also see another large chain store moving in to work with another already existing chain store. Details not out in the open yet, as soon as they are, I will be sharing and my eyes will rolling to the ceiling - the balance is tipping to much to the chains!
My annual membership is just for renewal, for my Garforth in Bloom tub, it only costs be £40 a year – have a look and see how you can, 'Brighten our community' too. You don’t have to be a business, you can also be a Friend of Garforth in Bloom for just £5 a year – every little helps http://www.garforthinbloom.org.uk/
Have you been watching?
The fabulous series, Dementia Choir on BBC with Vicky McClure (not H from Line of Duty) you will see the great impact it is having on people with early, onset dementia as well as people who have been suffering for many years, it’s a very heart warming, sad but joyful programme to watch – it proves in so many ways how singing can help, with confidence, concentration, happiness and overall a really feel good place people want to be. If it’s something you’re interested in or know of someone, please look into our local choir, they are such a lovely family and welcome ALL people with open arms
