Ok, who stole July and the weather? Is it always the case that the first week of summer holidays it rains? As parents, the things you have to do on rainy days is endless, I have a whole list. You have to be weather prepared as a British mum or grandparent. It’s always fun juggling work and 2 boys who don’t every want to keep still for too long.
However, as we enter August, the weather looks more favourable #fingercrossed
What a fabulous evening had by 30 local people last night at Pride and Produce. Cheese and Wine night; move over 1970’s, Pride and Produce have just brought this back to the 21st Century.
We had – 6 different cheeses, 6 different wines, accompanied by local breads, grapes, quince, apple Chutney, local biscuits, herby tomatoes, figs and; a glass of water - it was very warm last night!
All of the cheeses were brought to us by the wonderful Cryer & Stott, a local Yorkshire and independent company. The Brie was Yorkshire made and the Rhubarb cheese was to die for. Gary, and Sarah, owners of Pride and Produce were the perfect hosts as was the lovely Sam along with Tim from Premier Cru, in Baildon, Tim was the evenings wine expert.
Gary told us so much about every cheese paired with each wine and the history of how it all started and where today we can buy it. It was a very informative and a fabulous sociable evening; I may book on to their next Cheese event, Homage to Fromage in the coming months. Just a little inside info… as they now have a license, do you know you can pop in on a Friday and Saturday between 4-6 for a quick gin or two; or a beer…. Drink locally
Book online and get great offers using their new APP
And local I go, some more…….
I’m looking forward to tomorrow night’s event with, Three Sisters Supper Club held in Cielo - #DATENIGHT and more eating! The thing I love about it the most, there's no pressure to leave. Arrive at 7.30pm and leave when it closes, as no-one else is taking your seat as you have paid in advance for your ticket – See, we have some fabulous things locally. Follow Adam and his team on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – Three Sisters Supper Club so you don’t miss out on the next one

Bike routes needed!
After 11 months I feel pretty much back to my pre-pregnancy self (or as close as I'm going to get) so in a moment of confidence I said 'yes' when my hubby asked if I wanted to sign up for the Galloway Gallop - a 43 mile bike event early October.
How often have I been in my bike since signing up? Once. I'm hoping that since I can start leaving my little man with grandparents now since he's almost fully weaned I'll be able to get out more often.
I need route ideas though! If anyone can suggest good routes starting and finishing in Garforth, off busy roads (I have a mountain bike so trails are fine) I'm all ears - I need to start clocking some miles!
Find me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @mumingarforth or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Until next week,
Teach your children how important it is to shop local, it's up to us to show the next generation why it is important to look after the place they call home
Until next week.......

WHERE WE CHOOSE
We choose where we shop and we choose how we shop,
I like to think of myself as conscientious shopper; it’s a good thing, because I get the groceries I want and it makes me feel good knowing I’ve supported a local business. Like most people I get a supermarket delivery, but only for the things I can’t buy locally.
All my Fruit, veg, meat, flowers & plants, artisan bread, Cakes and cheeses, are bought locally. When I shop at a supermarket, I tend to look at what’s Yorkshire or closer to home, so for everyday bread I buy Jacksons (Yorkshire) bread, Yorkshire Tea, Taylors of Harrogate Coffee (as well as Cielo of Course)
Down to choice - this week I have learnt some very sad news about one of our long standing businesses, this information I will share with you very soon, but suffice to say, it was a very teary day in a lovely shop yesterday - USE THEM OR LOOSE THEM
NO MIG this week, back next week.... busy times with little people
Redrow Homes have an amended planning application in, you can see on the public access page
Create button https://publicaccess.leeds.gov.uk/online-applications/
And you can make your comments up until the 25th July – from what I can see the changes to plans have been the additional homes from 238 to 241 - I mean 3 extra homes could be another million pounds! Will it mean profits from these extra homes could be for the provisions needed for roads and schools!!!
30 Main Street - New shop front for Cooplands Bakers – we will have a nice looking parade
I hear there is a timber company moving into the old Strikes Garden centre – not sure if this is just hoping to be a warehouse or somewhere public will be able to buy timber yet? #waitandsee
Until next week..................
Hold your loved ones closer, every day - RIP Liz Shaw
Like we ever need a special day to eat it! Go on, be off with you, eat some chocolate today - it says so
A mixed week at TMD HQ this week, but as usual it’s always busy...It was nice to receive my eldest #thomboys SATS results this week, proving that all his hard work and determination paid off. Not looking forward to the youngest #thomboy coming up to year 6, hoping the pressure is off by the time he does them!
I'm ready for the summer break... you? Well we know the teachers are #hatsoff to all our teachers
Looking forward to Social Media training with Garforth Dental next week and The lovely team at The Smile Cupboard. This training session not only helps members, how to use social media but how it works and how best to use it. It’s about the understanding and using it in ways they may not have thought about, you will be surprised how many people use Twitter or Facebook but don’t actually fully understand it from a business perspective. It’s only when you’re shown do you understand; like most things in life!
We will also a new member next week, www.facebook.com/homewardhoundslodgesandwalks - check out this new dog walking service being offered locally
I believe last week’s TAKETHAT Live concert at The Welfare Hall was fantastic, a full house and lots of dancing and a few glasses of vino – I saw a video! As mentioned last week, TAKETHATLIVE will be back with other ideas later in the year.
I always think it's great that we can do these things in Garforth, we can have night out and enjoy local, we now have more on offer than ever before and I don't need to tell you, but when our local businesses put on good things and you go, the more they will do, bringing more and perhaps even bigger and better each time - remember, you shape our town.
Great to hear Garforth on Radio Leeds this week talking to a few familiar voices in Garforth including our lovely Carol from Garforth in Bloom about our wonderful YARNBOMBING up Selby Road. If you want to see it all properly, go and park in the Gaping Goose, stop in for a glass or two and then take a walk down to look at all the yarn bombing that took local volunteers an age to put all together - it's truly fabulous
Nice to have seen tweets and pictures of, Prince Harry in Leeds this week raising awareness for Mental Health – i love a royal, but love our young new generation, Royals they seem to be changing how things are done, moving with the times. #goharry for raising such an important matter which needs to matter to people that don't understand.
#MIG (mother in Garforth)
Childminding in Garforth
I’m not going back to work yet, but as first birthdays in our playgroup are fast approaching, many other mums I’ve met are getting ready to return to work. Which means I get to hear from them the joys and challenges of sorting out childcare – hurrah!
If you’re looking for a childminder in Garforth, check out Little Bunnies Childminding – my lovely friend Sam is in the process of registering with Ofsted and is on track to open her doors in September in time for the school year. She’s a qualified midwife, is fantastic with kids (just ask my little man, he’ll tell you), and is one of the kindest people I know. Interested? Check out her Facebook page and get in touch with her if you have any questions.
Hope you have a lovely weekend!
Until next week,
Find me on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram @mumingarforth.
#WOTS ( haven't had this in for a while - word on the street)
Lidl – A few weeks pass and then people question as to whether Lidl is ever coming – Mark Dobson spoke to them last week and they’re pushing to get Caddick Developers on site asap
Nice to hear the release of information about the company, Odeon being the cinema coming to Thorpe Park, it will be a 10 screen cinema promising the latest in new technology and a fantastic experience! Development of the cinema and leisure complex has started this week, due to open Autumn 2018. Just wondering what they mean when they mention a further 5 high street leisure operators are also close to securing space at Thorpe Park’ I wonder who these will be, with it being leisure? I expect evenings and weekends we will see our younger generation heading off this way and it will be great for families to have somewhere closer to go for leisure facilities. I can just see it now though! Mums and Dad’s being Taxi services from Garforth to Colton – Mmmm, maybe this could be an idea one of our taxi companies could run!!
There is news of a consultation meeting regarding a proposed new crematorium to be developed at the back of Garforth Golf Range, so if you are interested hearing more, please do attend
