A great insight at the Site Allocation open meeting today at Welfare Hall today - still on until 7pm tonight, so you still have to go and find out
Instead of listening to rumours about housing, go and find out for yourself what the LCC have to say about the sites that are allocated for 'possible' future housing and infrastructure. It's interesting, it may sway your opinions from what they were when walking in the door, for or against.
Find out the Facts here as to where it's at and what happens next
Weather - Note, the Garforth Live page now has a 3 day Garforth Weather forecast
The mornings are starting to feel like Autumn
Coming soon - A review section, so you, the community or members will be able to put a review for other people to see
SHOP LOCAL, or there will be no, LOCAL SHOP
I completed my Usherette duty at the wonderful Phoenix Theatre for Caroline Atha’s school of dance, 'Dance like there’s no tomorrow ‘show . How fabulous it was and how great and talented are our young people in and around Garforth are
Caroline's school is extremely full at the minute with a waiting list. But I do know her younger boys Street dance classes on a Tuesday evening at 6pm still has some spaces
This week is National Curry week - make sure you get in before it’s over on the 18th. We have many choices, all of which have great reviews #eatlocal this weekend
Last week I mentioned........
This shopping slump is across the nation even going all the way back to suppliers. I’m hoping as the Christmas season approaches, you will come out in your droves – it’s us every day spenders that help build the local economy we live in. Spend your money locally
Garforth Hour was amazing last Tuesday, Christmas shopping for some too, as local business connected and networked for an hour showing what they sell and giving other local businesses ideas of what is also on their doorstep.
A lot of the time I get asked questions about things in Garforth, if I can help find something, if I know if someone can help, how something is best advertised/ achieved, can I recommend people, can I help with social media. Buy my best question to date was by the lovely Charlotte from Dance Zumba this week; I may have to start a random question of the month prize!
‘Chris, do you know if Dorothy Anne’s Mannequins have legs?’
For those of you who don’t know, Charlotte; as well as running Zumba classes several times a week, also runs Northern Youth Theatre Company with her husband and their production this term is, CATS.... the answer was no, but I think the best question thus far?
This week I have been shocked to read how much hassle the Garforth Lions have been getting over the fact the Bonfire is on the same night as Halloween. Don't you think they would have had the same thought?! This year, they really didn’t have many options. Please always bear in mind
The Lions are volunteers, some for 30+ years and this event is FREE
Please bend a little; they bend over backwards for our community! #thinkbeforeyoustink
Suggestion – As Halloween is on a Saturday, do something earlier then go to the bonfire.... Just think about the wonderful noises that will be in Garforth on this night... Ahhhh, OOoooo, Scream, Yell, Ooooo
This week’s Garforth Christmas Committee Meeting was really productive. Lots of tick boxes for things done and some more ideas passed about for things to be done that can be done. To give you heads up, this year, we are looking at:
Lots of you are asking questions about it, so here’s what I have found out so far that’s causing the delay;
They’re liaising with the local authority to obtain relevant planning and licensing consents but
According to Mark Dobson, they are waiting for a noise impact assessment then they can progress it through planning
No more updates on planning this week, everything still in Planning consideration
This week the website hit another milestone
I’m chuffed to bits that over the last 10 months people are seeing and re-visiting the website especially as more local companies are coming onboard
If you’re already shopping local, thank you. If you’re yet to try more than just the food places.... just give it a thought first, you will probably be surprised.
Yesterday was national poetry week and today is, get organised month.day. Get organised for all the winter festivities, Halloween, Bonfire, Christmas.... I love autumn and winter for all these great things we celebrate and have fun with
Another great week for new members, finally on board
The Beauty Corner
Enhance Dental looking at coming on board #nicedentist
Over the past few weeks local shops have seen a decline in business, especially on Saturdays... where are you all? I hear it’s across the nation, are people on holiday, are people saving for Christmas? I hear The White Rose was extremely busy.... we have 2 more months of pay before the big fella comes, what is it that makes you drive all the way to a massive busy department store for Christmas shopping, Price? Choice? I've compiled a list of some of the great things we have to offer, if this doesn't help, send me an email and see if I can help further . firstname.lastname@example.org
If you’re looking for stocking fillers, have a look local at Ladycares, Dorothy Anne’s, the local beauticians, Cielo and Sweetshakes.

Don’t let our local shops go under, support them even if it’s just once a week, don’t panic about the road on Main Street being busy.... it shouldn't be the reason you don't use the shops
'LA LA LA'
It was the first week of rehearsal for Garforth Community Choir on Wednesday and Wow what a fantastic evening it was. All those face of in trepidation; there was only a few, soon turned to smiles and joy as Cleve Freckleton put them at ease, and listened to their tones and where they should sit within the choir. Cleve is going to get you singing all genres, he wants you to have fun which is the main reason I put GGC together #watchthisspace to hear about their first performance!
Have a look at our page https://www.facebook.com/groups/1734083406819196/ or have a look under local bands on here to see further details about joining in the choir. You can still enrol next week , just come to Garforth Academy just before 7pm to the Main Entrance, meet James Jelliman from Arts Live and I before you go down to meet the rest of the choir

Have a good weekend, when you can, eat local, where you can, shoplocal
This week has seen the website reach 39,352 hits since January and as usual Facebook and Twitter have been busy - I'm now finding influential tweets are helping guide people to the website too.
Be the person that helps local businesses in and around Garforth #shoplocal #uselocal
Well I returned in one piece from my long weekend steering a boat down the chirk canal in Llangollen for nearly 3 hours - sometimes only a smile will get you through; oh and food and a glass of Prosecco! Apologies for the lack of shares on Sunday, wooden lodges in the middle of nowhere don't seem to favour wifi, 4G, 3G or even E for edge - and I wasn't climbing trees for signal!
How did we get to October? In fact how did we get to Friday? I'm not complaining of course, Friday is a goooood day, but this week seems to have disappeared into the air of thin! I will be looking forward to my husband returning this week from his busman's holiday in Gibraltar; monkeying around!
Well, what a busy week of new members it's been. This week we welcome Beyond Inspired, great local classes for educating children in fitness and health. Bumps and Babes - two great specialist midwives educating expectant mums along with mummy classes and aqua natal classes, locally in Garforth.
Mia's Nail Salon, a new addition to Main Street, hoping to capture you and nails into the salon. Kip McGrath all about helping our children in further tuition in Maths and English and The Beauty Corner, who have just taken over Glam-u-licious on Aberford Road next to the great little cafe Freshly Made who will also be on here soon too. - It's great to have new members as it helps build the website and let's you see what's on offer locally.... it's amazing what Garforth offers, just have a closer look
I have meeting with The Gaping Goose next week; I think Diane liked the idea Harry Gration was in her pub last week!
I've had a lovely invitation email this morning from The Arabian Horse in Aberford; I'm looking forward to tasting their Breakfast offer very soon.
I've had lots of existing businesses come to me this week asking about alternative premises. It's a shame Garforth is so ridiculously expensive in rates and rent.... I know we're not the only high street that pays through the nose, but it would probably be a good idea for a group of people to get together, including local influential people to shout about it. I've tried shouting, but me on my own isn't loud enough; some of you may disagree. It's a force that's needed
Anyone want to start a force?
Anyway, if you know of a small office, a space for a church or a room with a few individual rooms attached to rent, let me know
Word On The Street
I see a lot of people kicked off on social media about The Garforth District Lions Bonfire evening being on Halloween this year. Hey, don't you think they thought they same as you, don't you think they thought it might be a problem too sharing woo's with argh's? Don't you think they may have limited days? Sometimes thinking before you rant may have saved the Lions pulling the original post down.
They are great group of people who have been dedicated to Garforth and District, some of them for years and years and we shouldn't really give them a hard time about something they do for free... yeah, sometimes things don't always go our way.... but as I know, trying to please everybody just makes you fail in what you're trying to achieve.
Go Oooo and ahhh and Grrrr all in one night, collect sweets earlier then go to the bonfire and then come back and collect some more sweets
Genix application for changing old Habits building is still under, planning in consideration.
Over the next month I will be working with Ladycares bring you weekly offers you can only get to know about if you follow The Main Deal, so keep an eye out each week for what offers you can get. - This week, if you purchase 2 or more £1.19 Astonish products for £1
Here's our great new logo for Garforth Community Choir which starts in the next week or two - there is still time to join, have a look at the link to find out how. Designed by the wonderfully talented John Harrison of John Harrison's Artwork right here in Garforth
People sometimes ask me what else I do for a job..... this is my job, full time, all the time, 7 days a week....
This week has seen the website reach 38,000 hits since January and as usual Facebook and Twitter have been busy - I'm now finding influential tweets are helping guide people to the website too.
Next Garforth Hour Live will be held at Garforth Town Football Club on Tuesday 2nd December - If you're a local business, come and join in and subscribe to this great free event.
Until next week
PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR HOUSE......
My name is Christine Thom, I came to live in Garforth 20 years ago; you may have seen me around ?
