Lots of planning, reports and information being passed through social media of late about the new proposals with Thorpe Park and how M&S are moving from CrossGates, as it may be a good move for M&S, I don’t think it will be a good move for Crossgates, I think it brought a good amount of footfall! I believe in a good balance of shops as it then appeals to more and fits people’s appetites. I hope when this new large retail park does open in 2018 it doesn’t detract from our fabulous high street. We are growing in such a fabulous way and more of what people want is coming, if we all support it now, then it has a sustainable future. Think before you buy is all it takes.
This is me signing off until 2017, have a listen to some of our wonderful businesses wishing you a very Merry Garforth Christmas

After all the hard work of our lovely volunteers at Garforth in Bloom, it was sad to hear that a plant or two has been lifted from their new bed at Garforth Station Car park, and lifted in a way, as to be Re-planted elsewhere…. Come on people, these plants are paid for by people within the community or, 'The Friends of Garforth in Bloom’ and they help pay for them… SO STOP with the thieving from your own doorstep!

# MIG (Mum in Garforth)
After months of dealing with sleep deprivation and reflux, things with baby T are finally getting easier like they said it would. I now have a small amount of time and brain space to devote to something other than running a household and keeping a three month old alive (and happy).
I've spent some of this time making Christmas wreaths for friends and family. I like it because it's festive and creative and makes me really pay attention and look around for plants and inspiration on my walks with baby T.
I've put some how-to's and ideas on wreath-making on my Facebook page (@garforthkitchenchristine) so please do take a look. I also have a few that are available to buy for £20 if you like them but not able to make one yourself.
You can also find me on Twitter and Instagram on @garforthkitchen.

This week is was decision day for Dominoes! As the application has had several, very good objections to its arrival, if they can't make a decision, it may go to panel where councillors and people who have submitted comments, can attend! I’ll wait for my invite
Proposed plans were sent to residents living near East Garforth train station this week, due to so many complaints and ongoing letters to local Councillors and Leeds City Council and, from what I believe a fair few failed attemps over recent years to come up with a plan where all residents can agree, here is a copy of LCC last attempt sort out the parking problem. It has been said there will be a window for school drops off (and I don’t mean chucking your kids through one!)
It's not the best of pictures, but the red is Woodlands Drive and the blue is, proposed residential permit parking
WHATS ON NEXT WEEK; until then............
It’s DECEMBER, we can officially start the celebrations into Christmas. Yippee
I see a few people have their decorations up already but I expect more will be up over this weekend. Time to get the ladder out, put it up against the house and……………… hold the lights whilst my husband climbs the walls to put them up! You’ve got no chance of me up a ladder!
Today is Bartender Appreciation day and most occupations have a day dedicated to them on the job, attending the bar is no exception. Bartender Appreciation Day aims to make customers think about the great service their favourite Bartenders give while pouring pints, mixing cocktails as well as a great people skills, talking, listening joking and being a shoulder to cry on. Make sure today that you appreciate all our local bartenders who are working in our local restaurants and local Pubs.
It's 'SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY' tomorrow
I’m hoping a fair few of our businesses are getting behind this annual celebration of Small Business Saturday. It’s a celebration of great small businesses and for us, as local residents to acknowledge and shop locally. So please, not just at Christmas and not just tomorrow, support all local businesses always. They work so hard, by buying in what they think we want and what we've asked for and need. They do so much after that door has closed and you have gone home. Most of our businesses bend over backwards to get it right, and their customer service and friendliness is second to none.
If you shop local, they shop local too, let’s keep our local economy turning.
I hope you have been able to watch the recent FB live videos, It’s a bit of fun in the lead up to Christmas to see if it brings another dimension in telling you more about our local businesses. You will see me next week with Sweetshakes and Cielo. I will give you notice beforehand so you can join in the live feed and ask questions too.
Christmas lights switch on went really well, lots of people out, the weather was on side and the stage was full of activity especially with Garforth Community Choir who sang really well considering their poor stage conditions, no lights and no overhead mics, they really sung their heart out in order you could hear. All the Breeze Talent performers were also very good including our very own Caroline School of Dance and Garforth Jubilee brass band. It was lovely to see Katy Marchant, our local Olympic bronze medallist and the Leeds Mayoress turning on the Lights this year - they all came on eventually : )
A some of you have mentioned, there were no fireworks this year, to be fair, it costs and arm and a leg and it was only a few weeks earlier we had a massive amount of them at Glebelands, so I think the Christmas committee thought the money was best spent elsewhere; and I feel we have much better lights this year and with the lovely window displays, it makes Garforth look lovely in the evening.
The stalls were also received very well a few comments coming in that they were a little expensive but overall they were really liked by the community and it was nice to see Cielo, Pride and Produce, Quirky Ales, Slimming World and Angels and Butterflies out there along with Garforth Flood group doing one of their little stalls which is always a favourite with my children.
Make sure, when shopping next Saturday, you pop into Garforth in Blooms Christmas Fair
From 10 till 12 at the Miners Welfare hall you can look at more details on their website is www.garforthinBloom.org.uk.
I hope some of you were able to make the Redrow Homes meeting on Monday? Have a have a look at their proposals that is just 'at planning stage’ according to the developers, not sure I am 100% believing this due to the fact that the lovely beautiful Victorian building has been knocked down! It’s recently come out that it doesn’t belong to Stocks but by a private developer, but nobody knows who and according to other sources, the building was always going to be knocked down! I feel so sad, this building could have given something to the community, we as current residents could have used it and I know there were plans from a possible private investor that could have done this with his whole heart and made it into something fabulous…. And now there’s no chance, instead we’re going to add 238 houses that are not affordable housing and with a starting bracket of £300,000! With 15% of them rented out to LCC, I don't know who's going be able to buy something like that! Somebody on social media mentioned that it's all ffordable because somebody who bought a house, say a few years back for £150k as first time buyer will now now be able to afford a £300,000 home! Now I don't know that many people who could double their mortgage; and would they really be getting anything bigger. I wonder who will buy the big ones next to rented ones! Prices are unfair for anyone wanting to get ont he housing market, and it this rate, you may as well move down south! #inmyopinion
On the evening itself, there where not all the right people in attendence so some quesitons could not be asked, for example the infrastructure of the Road, the fact one of the developers didn’t know about the bridge on bar lane is a bit ridiculous
Mark Dobson had mentioned on a social media post last week that there is only provision of £600,000 to be spent outside the development, this would be set up to cover major road infrastructure or a school provision; so that won’t happen with £600k ! I’m all for change, but change that works
I read on Streetlife this week that Councillor Alec Shelbrooke, has, after many years received confirmation of a step free access on Garforth Train Station along with other information that should clarify a few discussions that have been passed round Garforth of late, Re: closing and new stations and Thorpe park
Don’t just live in Garforth, really LIVE here, it helps keep the place you chose to live.. nice
Put your money where your house.
Until next week...................
My name is Christine Thom, I came to live in Garforth nearly 22 years ago; you may have seen me around ?
