Happy Christmas Jumper Day
I hope you have been wearing yours?
News report trending today is about parents letting their children drink alcohol from the age of 14, it says in the report that it’s mostly down to families who come from a well-educated background; I would never let my #thomboys drink from 14; well, I’m not well educated !
I believe Tenerife is beautiful at this time of year; if only we had more sun in blighty, it’s been extremely cold this week, including ice to make everyone walk like they’ve had an accident in their pants! I laugh, but I had lots of body jolting moments yesterday and today on the school run. From a house window I expect it would have looked rather amusing.
WHAT A YEAR
What has gone on this year, besides it flying past like a red arrow aeroplane?
Quite a lot of new members this year including lots of existing ones still with us another year on, we must be doing something right?
Wow what a great event this was, I don’t know about you, but our little team had such fun creating a food lovers festival and we are now on the path to bringing it back, bigger and better on the 14th and 21st July 2018 – Let’s celebrate the good we have locally and enjoy the good things Garforth has to offer.
Don't win them all
I tried so very hard this year to try and work with Virgin Media to give something back to the community after leaving a bit of a mess on our roads and paths. I wanted to get them to support and create more of an art installation on the grey media boxes they have installed; making something not so pretty look a bit more interesting as we walk and drove past.
They were all for it, and we nearly got to a meeting with the head honcho, but at the last minute they pulled the plug on the idea as they had, had too many complaining local residents and thought that by getting involved in this little project idea, it would cause more complaints!!! I even asked for permission to just get on with it myself and we could get local businesses to sponsor them, but still waiting on that one….. We can but try
I introduced one of our local ladies who lives in Garforth but orginates from Poland to our local librarian who co-ordinates all the events, Kate Midwood to see if some activities could be done for our polish community – this has been really successful this year with lots of great community things going on, and it look sot continue in to 2018.
Part of my job is to try and connect people with each other, because more often than not, ideas people can have can work if you connect them to the right people, and a little coaxing on my behalf always helps - I sell a good idea well!
This year I have been really lucky to have been nominated for 3 different awards
Unfortunatyely I was not a winner, but to be nominated means so much, it makes it all feel worthwhile.... and look what's just come in this morning
Garforth Community Choir go from strength to strength with lots of gigs this year. As much as now sit in the background and just help promote these lovely talented people. It’s fabulous that pulling something together is still very successful 2 years on.

USEYOURLOAF - we hope you enjoyed our little campaign, I hope it gave you ideas about what you can buy and use with a very small budget? We spent a long time working out how, where and what we could buy, but to be honest it wasn’t that difficult – you can do it too. We only had £40 and with few store cupboard ingredients, we fed our families for a week and a little few luxury items - we hope to carry on the USEYOURLOAF campaign and do something else with a budget, so keep following in the new year to find out what else we can spend locally.
Dominies – we tried to stop this company coming along, whether you agree or not, If I don't think something works, I will do my best to poke my business in there and see if things can come to a compromise or change for the better. I always look into the long term effects of things coming to Garforth, and another takeaway franchise company, we didn't need. For a few short months there was a little ray of hope that they had decided to pull out, but unfortunately, it wasn't long before they got their knickers in a twist and came back with their Dough. Glad it’s here and making such an impact on footfall in the daytime…. Oh no, it’s not is it! You can’t win them all.
Planning permission got the green light for Lidl to get underway; it’s looking not too far away, due to open in Spring 2018. It’s a shame Home Bargains will be accompanying them along with another pub, creating a destination for people to get many things all in one place, let’s hope it doesn’t impact on our lovely main street too much. #eyestothesky moment
This year it's been road works city. But as much as it has been a pain in the rear end, the long term gain will be benefit us all, wider roads, better connections, efficient gas works – hold tight just a little longer, by spring we should see all the works complete – until they need to dig up again .
There have been a fair few little projects I have been involved in this year, but if I add them all on, you will probably fall asleep, let's just say, it's been an EVENTful year
We will see a few changes in the New Year so #watchthispace

You may have heard rumours over on other Social Media sites, if not, we are to get a new Pizza Restaurant where the Vape Lounge used to be, and in planning, they have asked to extended their opening hours in order it can be open for lunch as well as a bit later in the evenings. I'm looking forward to having more options to add to our night time vibe here in Garforth - bring it on I say; and the owner is independent #happydays

It's official, we can now celebrate Christmas; even though I have been celebrating with a box of roses for quite sometime now.
What a shame for the the Christmas Lights Switch on last Friday, what rubbish weather, making it damp, cold and miserable and then hindering the electrics on the stage. Well done to Garforth Community Choir who were singing their hearts out, using all their lung capacity to reach out to us and to our local dancers who also had to dance in a very small space so they wouldn't slip. Good old British weather hey. I didn't deter too many of you, 6.20pm there was p
