After watching War on Plastic’s this week, it has got me, full steam ahead to get our businesses thinking more about it too, so I have been talking to a few of our local businesses this week, about how we can reduce plastics in the high street, some are keen to go along with some of my ideas, for example, taking our own tubs to put meat produce in; if supermarkets are doing it, so can we! I will let you know when this can be confirmed. I believe a few people have already been taking their tubs into Firths Butchers and they have welcomed it.
Sometimes it’s just simple changes we can make to reduce our single use plastic – change to using our local milkman, Gary Ingham who offers free range milk – glass bottled and not plastic – order just what you need so you’re not throwing milk away – Want his details? Gary Ingham call 07528 691 294 or email firstname.lastname@example.org - Gary has been in the industry for over 25 years and is delighted to be able to offer free range milk. – We have been buying it for years and I can honestly say, it’s really, really nice
I have also been speaking to a 'potential' new biz - if it comes off, it will be brilliant when it comes to saving on plastic waste! #watchthisspace for further news - meeting happening soon
Make small changes as it all helps
Proud to announce
Sticks and Stones – our local band have today released 4 songs online – you can listen and download them on ITunes, Spotify and Amazon Music
It’s so great that in April these young lads of 13/14 where able to raise money on a just giving page, got into a professional studio and recorded 4 of their own original songs, and now they have them online playing #proudparent #proudboys teenagers can be great people
What’s on – Don’t let the rain put you off enjoying local - it’s easier to get home
I put a post out this week about how I am trying to influence what comes to our town to make Garforth a place people want to be. If something comes in planning and I believe it will work, I will whole heartily support and push for it to happen; here’s why
I am just waiting to hear from the owners of the new proposed cocktail bar for 40 Main Street. I am very much behind this idea, and these are the reasons why;
More good news in planning and as a franchise, I will be backing – Agents for Clip and Climb have put in a planning application, to go into the empty premises near Homebase, this, I think would work really well here in Garforth and something fun and leisure that we've all been screaming for. I have sent an email to the agent in support and will be adding it to planning too.
I have been talking to Jo at the Station House Café too this afternoon –oooooo now this is going to be good – keep following for more good news. Don't forge the super delicious menu in the day, great for a friends get together with a Prosecco perhaps!
Have the best weekend and may the RAIN JUST STOP ALREADY
Until next week
My name is Christine Thom, I came to live in Garforth nearly 22 years ago; you may have seen me around ?
