Mmm, not sure a day of silence would work for me!
It’s been a busy fortnight with the children being off, and we’re just back from Legoland, it was great, amazing, such fun with three mad boys, 10, 6 and 45! We also stopped in on the Queen, at Windsor Castle, she was handing out OBE’s and things.... no sneaky peak at the celebs though, not even HRH herself! But we were lucky to have great weather; it truly felt like spring down south. I did promise on Tuesday evening whilst tweeting on Garforth Hour that I would do my best to tow back the sun; but it didn’t work.
Back to it next week with the kids back in school. It’s nice to hear that some of our shops over the last fortnight have been busier... let’s keep it up people, even if you just buy 1 thing a week from an independent business, it’s not all about the food! For example:
Who are you picking to cover your business insurance? Use local
Who are you choosing to cover your accounts? Use local
Who is maintaining your car? Use local
Where are you buying your new windows and doors? Use local
I talk to a lot of people, all of the time, a lot of the time, (see, a day of silence would be just rubbish) when people think of shopping local, it means buying food shopping, locally, why would they when it's much easier to do so in the supermarket,.... yes, we all use supermarkets, we have done for years, that will never change, but just think about what the local food shops offer, most of them deliver for free to your door, but as above, shopping local isn’t just about food, keep following the Garforth Live board to see what else there is. #besurprised
If you are a fan of using The Main Deal, fabulous, I really do thank you. But would you kindly do me a favour, please would you leave a review, it helps really everyone. http://www.themaindeal.co.uk/reviews.html
I had a great meeting with Paul from West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce a week ago, he has asked if i would help out in their Government scheme, Start&Grow, which helps startups to flourish. They have a great way of helping people who want to get a new business of the ground, and he has asked if I can help from a local aspect with social media training. This scheme is here to help and is free if you fulfil the criteria that is required, which to be fair, would cover many start ups – if you want to hear more about it, please don’t hesitate to contact me and I will put you in touch with them. Great news to hear about another eatery opening in August. The new Cafe will be called, The Station House Cafe and will be located on Garforth Train Station. They have plans to open in 3 phases and they are all very exciting. I’m popping in to meet with the owner next week whilst she’s there stripping.....WALLS, people, walls! I’m looking forward to hearing more about it. For now, this is their first phase
Phase 1 - is the take-away service, which will be served from the serving hatch facing the platform. Opening hours will be 6-11am, Mon-Fri to start with. Mainly hot breakfast sandwiches, but also hot and cold drinks, including speciality Italian coffees, and a small range of Italian sweet pastries. For those commuters not wanting breakfast so early, they can grab a coffee on the go, plus pick up something to take into work for their lunches, such as sandwiches or boxed salads.
Strikes new Garden Centre is going up quick, not sure what the big round cylinders are in the front, I’m gathering they’re to hold water?
A new restaurant too! I look forward to it opening in autumn. I hope they’re going to invite the Garforth Lions Santa back? And sadly no, the train has never been found!
So what’s all this malarkey about meetings not going ahead if Councillor Dobson is in attendance over the NHS Garforth Clinic tomorrow?
I believe Mark is on Made in Leeds tonight talking about it – see what he has to say on the matter ahead of tomorrow’s meeting at the Welfare hall; if it goes ahead?! On The Aire 6pm and 9pm SKY 117 or Freeview channel 7
A tweet came in this week about Junction 47 and the developers, Wilton Developments.
WILTON DEVELOPMENTS has revealed its intention to bring forward a major scheme in Leeds after acquiring a 75-acre site.
Purchasing on behalf of Water Lane, Wilton said the site at Junction 47 of the M1 at Garforth has permission to deliver a large scale development and is “potentially significantly important to the growth and development of the wider East Leeds area.”
Jason Stowe, managing director of Wilton Developments, said: “We have appointed Nathaniel Lichfield and Partners to advise us on the various planning options for the site, it is our intention to bring forward a quality scheme for the area.
"Wilton has a strong track record of bringing sites forward for development and we look forward to working closely with Leeds City Council and other stakeholders to achieve this aim.”
The Leeds office of CBRE has been retained to provide real estate advice to Wilton on the site.
On asking Mark Dobson if he knew of their plans, he wasn’t sure as this area has been down for development for some time, as we all know the former Prison idea, glad that got squashed!, So it was only a matter of time before someone was going to build on it. Wilton’s will still have to apply for planning with LCC. Let’s hope it’s something good and not something that will dappen out our high street! I’ll keep my eye on the public access page
Be seen to be local and shout out about it, you can help by just simply sharing where you have been; recommend it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or snapchat
Until next week.......
My name is Christine Thom, I came to live in Garforth 20 years ago; you may have seen me around ?
