See where the money goes, where your money goes http://www.sportrelief.com/where-your-money-goes It's been another busy week at TMD, some work, some pleasure First one was a meeting at The Bird In Hand with the lovely singers from Garforth Community Choir – we asked how it had all been going over the past 4 months, a chat with us the organisers and the fabulous choir leader, a place to ask questions, have a laugh and of course sing; well one song to George, the landlord as it was soon to be his birthday! We now we have 31 full time members and of course always looking for more, please see poster for details should you wish to join. #bass #tenors #altos #sopronos On Tuesday morning I attended a new business start-up workshop which is organised through central libraries, with The Business and IP Centre of Leeds who brought along West Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and Chartered Institute and WGN Chartered Accountants, I also had the opportunity to stand up and talk to the 8 who attended about Social media and how to use it well,. This is a great thing that is offered for FREE and one of the many things the library offers – look out for the next workshops It was also Garforth Hour LIVE event which was held by the wonderful people at Augustus Court, Meridian Care home, and as I expected lots of our attendees from our great local businesses were completely blown away by Augustus Court; most of them were looking for the book to put their name down. Garforth Hour live events are arranged every couple of months; it’s a great way of introducing yourself, the person behind the business. After you have spent all your time tweeting over the last few months, it a great opportunity to meet and meet at local venue. Meridian Court certainly pulled out all the stops as generous and helpful hosts. We had homemade cakes from their in-house Chef as well as plenty to drink including red and white wine. Go and have a look how splendid it is for yourself and change your perceptions that you ever had for care homes - call the team for a nosey round on 0333 999 8727 Then last night I had the opportunity to go and see Great Expectations with the fabulous Sullivan Martin, one of our local primary school children playing Pip, who’s also our Zumba Queen Charlotte Martin’s son, so of course a group of us Zumba ladies went to see him in his performance. Well not only was the play fabulous but WOW to Sullivan’s performance, we have a fabulous talented young man in our midst, one to watch in the future I think. I also believe one of the girls who plays Estelle is also a Garforth Primary school performers #garforthtalent I hope the people that attend Sweetshakes Ladies Shopping evening had a great event last night, one of many I hear..... New members showing interest this week, coming on after Easter #watchthisspace BUDGET 2016 – after my Facebook post last week about the rates being extortionate for most of our local business owners, it was nice to hear that George Osborne; who was in Garforth himself yesterday at St. Benedict’s school joining in activities! Has now made decisions that will actually be more fair to our smaller businesses, where they will all see some kind of rates relief next year, this will most certainly help with their bills, let’s just hope the landlords don’t get greedy and decide to put their rent up knowing that they may now longer be paying as much or if any rates next year.... #dontbesurprised. #WOTS Word on The Street A new business will be moving into Razers soon after they have departed. I will be emailed shortly with the news of who will be moving in once contracts have been signed and sealed. Joan’s as you will see and have heard over the last few weeks is also departing Main Street, ironically as soon as she has put up closing down sale signs, she’s never been so busy, sad to think that only now people are going in #toolate Henry Lax Ltd is yet to release the information about who is taking over these premises. It’s good that these two business that are leaving will soon be filled and not left empty, I just hope it more of the independent sort and not big branded names. I always think we need a balance, but you get so much more from independent businesses. It was sad to read and see that all the efforts of Garforth in Bloom and all their hard work making our areas in Garforth especially the welcome stones look beautiful with daffodils have this week, been destroyed by vandals, apparently it’s the third time this year it’s happened If it’s jealousy, ENVY IS AN UGLY COLOUR or is it just plain stupidity of people thinking it’s funny – how long did your laugh last, you live here too #idiots Planning Application has been refused to turn the residential property next to the library into a Solicitors, which would explain the sale sign board going back up Everything else seems to have slowed down a little on commercial properties but houses are still going like hotcakes, here’s hoping new people look and shop local too Yes Wetherspoons is still going ahead, yes it's taking a long time, but just think, Summer could be really good in Garforth this year AGAIN FOR YOUR DIARY – Augustus Court, Meridian Care Home will be having an open Day on Saturday 23rd April, you will be able to go along and see this wonderful place and also listen to Garforth Community Choir sing as well as one of the local dance and theatre schools perform – I will create an event for this very soon. CHANGE WHAT YOU THINK YOU KNOW AND FIND OUT SOMETHING YOU OUGHT TO KNOW #SHOPLOCAL #SHOPGARFORTH With it being Easter Weekend next weekend, the next blog update will be Friday 1st April #foolsday Until then...........
