It's been a quiet week this week, I can see in my stats that most people are clearly still lucky enough to be on their holidays #luckyyou
TMD HQ hasn't been quiet though, reviews and meetings this week, glad to see another two businesses are happy with being on The Main Deal and actually 'grateful for being with such a good service' - These are the words that make the work even more, worthwhile.
As much as having my boys off on holiday is great, I am looking forward to some kind of normal working hours, staying up til 11pm catching up is no fun, but things have to keep ticking along.
It hasn't been all work and no play, last weekend was full of local fun with The Garforth Beers Festival #thebestoneyet - the turnout was great and they were running out of beer fast, not the cider though with one of them, TOP COPPER being a 7.4% - so I had to try it .... very nice. The live music was fantastic but perhaps a little too loud for the size of the venue, but luckily Garforth's own weather system was on our side and the sun was shining until late.
It was fun to see a couple of cyclists had stopped for a beer or 7; it was also a good job they left pushing their bikes! The Hubby and I then left for a spectacular meal at our fabulous Italian, La Bella Vita. The Al Funghi risotto is my favourite, so much so, no one dare speak to me when it is being consumed.... might be the only thing that shuts me up!
Sunday was a quiet night out with the neighbours of the street, an evening of eating; again at our local Aagrah, Sunday Buffet, I've never had it before and it was, if a little unreadable and a bit unsure what was in the choice; and I'm a curry queen, however, reading and not understanding was not an issue, the food was fabulous as was the large Cobra beers that assisted the curries and sides and puddings.... not a great week for Charlotte Martin our local Zumba classes to be on holiday!... so, so much for a quiet evening.... Monday morning, I felt a little delicate when heading down to the cricket ground #greatlead
So Garforth has been on the Telly this week! Garforth Parish Cricket Club on Green Lane has put on the best week for teaching our local children, both boys and girls and 96 of them the 'Ins' and 'Outs' of cricket, my own son went as he did last year as it's set up so well and he thoroughly enjoys every minute. The coaches are wonderful and as you will see in the video, one of them is quite well known

I became a Child Friendly Leeds Ambassador this week, something to add to Garforth area through The Main Deal in how we can help do things for our kids as they grow in our city and towns. You may have seen lots of links and posts already as I feel they are a wonderful asset to have in our area and the things they can provide and ideas we can all do to assist our younger generation through what I feel, a more difficult era to grow up in. - I will attend quarterly meetings and be involved in things in the area that could benefit children - and I get a nice badge!
WORD ON THE STREET
I follow StreetLife and follow local conversations and input where I think is, 1. relevant or 2.helpful. This week there has been a 7 day conversation about how Main Street could improve its traffic and parking, something that I'm sure everyone in Garforth has an opinion about. Yes we know there are issues, and yes we know it's packed, and yes we know people use it for the a parking area to then take the train or bus in to town, but please don't let it stop you shopping local - I never have an issue, waiting a few minutes now and again is not an issue and crossing over on 3 available crossings is also not an issue, as many of your will know, I spend a lot of time in Main Street and it's really not a #bigissue
I feel a suggestion will always be just that, a suggestion unless someone actually does something about it, and I personally know trying to get white lines and a restriction zone by Fairburn Drive shops, is no easy task, but working with the right people, being persistant could actually see changes in the future. Don't talk....walk
2 weeks and the kids go back, will we hear tears of cries from our teachers and tears of joy from parents?
Anyway, make sure you look local for school clothes, as well as SPT selling all the branded items, please don't forget the wonderful Dorothy Annes for school uniforms, as well as pumps, and PE kits and underwear and also Lasercharge at the top of town for all your stationery needs, they have great back to school kit for £13.50... there's loads in it
Next Traders meeting will be held in September where discussions about Christmas, this years FiveRaffle and Halloween Windows will be discussed.....#spooky
Now have a great evening and weekend, I'm off to order dinner
My name is Christine Thom, I came to live in Garforth 20 years ago; you may have seen me around ?
