Answer your cat's questions day!! I have to laugh at these sometimes, random, 'Days of the Year,' who makes this stuff up? I know we have a fair few cat lovers about, I've even seen on line (being on it a lot) there are pop up cinemas up and down the country where you can go and watch funny, Youtube cat videos! If you're one of these attendees, maybe it's you that can answer your cat! It's squirrel appreciation day tomorrow! #nuts
It’s been a week in the office, catching up on paperwork, marketing, admin, IT and dealing with the loss of the ‘Share ‘functionality on Facebook through business pages, thankfully after 12 days #stilltwitching, this has finally returned - I’m sure it won’t be long until something else goes wrong.
Looking at my stats. on Facebook, it shows the average user is between 33-45 years of age take no offence; I’m in that age bracket. It appears, Facebook is just ‘for business stuff and Mum and Dads’ this is out of the mouths of our younger social media gurus! So in order to capture our younger audience, I have finally, this week got to grips with Instagram, so you will see a lot more posts coming through from there, it’s a great tool for photo posts and it’s attracting a lot of attention. Who knows, #Snapchat next!
Local businesses showing interest as new members this week;
DMC Plastering – will be on soon
Acaster Luxury Boarding
2 businesses from home
I had my eyes tested this week , my night time vision has deteriorated, so of course, I went local to the lovely ladies at Moorhouse Opticians. I have purchased anti glare, magnified lenses in order I feel safer driving at night. A really great choice of frames, lots of designer names too. I have gone for a classic vintage look; I'll wait for the, 'it makes you look more intelligent' feedback when they arrive!
Great league table GCSE Results for Garforth Academy this week, great to see it's top of the leader board in Leeds schools. Some may say kids are pushed too hard to gain good results for the school, but if 85% of them have pass rate of 83% GCSE in Maths and English , this is something to be proud of? No wonder people ask why we have so many estate agents in, Garforth... it's obvious people want to get into the schools!
Had a good meeting with, Garforth Christmas Committee recently, throwing some ideas about for this year. Already? Well, if we want things to happen, we need to look at it now. Last year I bent over backwards trying to get trees and brackets on the shop fronts, but as ideas and reality don’t always work, I now know we could do with a private investor, just like Wetherby has. #workingonit
The ideas being bandied about by the Committee were great, Debbie from Angels and Butterflies and I both agree that we should get more of our own local food businesses out there this year. Something I think we will push between us
#WOTS (word on the street)
As you will see from this week’s Shout Out, The Bird in Hand launch their Sunday Roast menu this weekend.. yum #localpub #pubwithfood #openfire
Stop the rumours - as Wetherspoons is delayed in coming to Garforth, people are now starting rumours that it's not coming at all, I can assure you, I have heard nothing of this and as far as I am aware, and information from Mark Dobson, they're justing sorting out delivery issues with it being so close to residential and obviously Sainsbury's deliveries too - you know when all the boxes are ticked, money will be released and it will be up in weeks #bepatientgarforth
We have a Traders meeting next week, it always covers a variety of things, but one of the big ones for Main Street Traders is Lidl and possibly Netto coming on board. Lidl will bring a butchers and veg shop and we have sent a letter to them this week copying in both our local Councillors as we feel Lidl should have come and spoken to the traders; they didn't bother! If they put in the other two proposed retail units as discount stores, this will have an impact on Main Street, it was bad enough when Tesco’s up and moved a few years back, Main Street will struggle to survive the novelty period should the community shoppers decide to give it up.
#shoplocal #shopgarforth or this is reality for our high street
I see nearby there are plans to build an M1 Service station, Junction 45. I suppose it’s about time as the M1 has nothing, but it does feel lately lots of plans, building, development and change is happening around us – not sure I like it all
Until next week..
Shopping local isn’t just about food; you can’t get everything in a supermarket.... #uselocal businesses first - just look for them
My name is Christine Thom, I came to live in Garforth 20 years ago; you may have seen me around ?
