+Will this year slow down already! I know I was moaning earlier in the year that January needed to go quickly, but we're nearly in April! We're flying through the first part of the year and every Friday comes round so quickly; as does Sunday! It appears we're not getting a winter either, I have only had my bobble hat out on a few outings; or am I going to speak too soon.....
It's been a week of juggling again with Mother still in hospital and our car needing a recall. As the car recall was going to take 4+ hours, I decided to pop across town, visit poor Mum and have lunch thereafter and do some work . I also had a bit of a mooch in some of the shops, not my favourite past time, I much prefer to go into town to eat and drink.
What I find is, chain stores really need to up their game on customer service, experience and environment. We are seeing a worrying decline in our cities high streets, especially with the big department stores, shops need customers who want to return. John Lewis seem to be going in the right way, but other larger stores need to jump on this fast train of change and quickly.
I stopped in a well known shop to buy Thomboy a shirt, I was stood waiting in a queue for nearly 15 minutes. I was just about to put my items down and walk out, when a Customer Service Assistant begrudgingly came behind another till to help out her colleague, who was up to her eyes in bags, hangers and other peoples clothes. It seemed a hardship for this lady to scan my items, and by the way, there was no apology for my wait. After she huffed and puffed all my items into my bag - I just said, in a quiet, polite voice, 'good customer service sees returning customers, shop stays open, your job stays safe' I smiled and walked away telling her to have a beautiful day. Not sure how well it went down and I expect, there were words in blue air, but please, no matter how much you may dislike customers, if you're in a customer service role, be good at it, it goes a long way to making people like me want to return.
For this years, Garforth Feastival, we have a few new ideas. This year as we are trying to minimise the amount of plastics we are using, so the team have created this fabulous, Sponsor a Bag, raffle - you can have your company logo on our Feastival bags. See how it all works and how you too could be helping in more ways than one.
One for your diaries - Green Lane Primary, PTA Group, FOGL have organised a spring fete for a Saturday this year and everyone is welcome. 18th May 2019
I hope you all have a good week, the last one before the next school break. I like this one, two weeks is much better than one. It gives our children time to relax have some, fun and spend quality time with family.... and it allows me time off from making packed lunches....yippee
Until next week - Do this when car's let you out - it's kind, it's nice and you're showing good manners
My name is Christine Thom, I came to live in Garforth nearly 22 years ago; you may have seen me around ?
