An 8 week term has been too long, the #thomboys can't welcome this break quick enough. However, a week is never enough. I wish they had 4 week at Summer and then 2 weeks in February and October. But it's Halloween and its all good, so whatever you do have a great time, if you're able to do so whilst juggling life. The last day of term, I have been with the youngest Thom Boy having a go at Badminton, I great Idea to try a new sport in school and your parents can't take part too; I didn't get too competitive; he is only 8! #fitnessdone
As mentioned briefly last week, Please come along on Monday 19th November at 5.45pm to Garforth Library to our initial discussion about how we can get our Repair Cafe off the ground. We've already had some great ideas come in too.
Loving the video by La Bella Vita released this week, A great reminder of the high quality food we have here in Garforth

Planning – some good news at last
I received a reply from Nick Borras of Highways
"Many thanks for your email regarding Church Lane, we are indeed looking once again at proposed parking restrictions to address the various ongoing issues.
Last year when we consulted the local residents on our proposals, we received widespread objections and took the decision to abandon the proposals at the time. However, with the issues continuing following discussions with the Ward Councillors we have agreed to revisit Church Lane with a view to hopefully getting a suitable compromise that residents are happy with and that addresses the problems. We are consulting at the present time, so no doubt we will have a better understanding of where we are in a couple of weeks." Fingers crossed it comes soon.
I also see local Councils are being asked to make sure any proposed plans for further Takeout’s on a high street are to be carefully considered, especially if they are close to schools, well I say close, 400 meters! This is what Garforth Plan and I mentioned when in a planning panel meeting for hours, some 18 months ago about yet another takeout gracing our paths, when Dominoes wanted a place. Takeout's are not healthy choices and as Leeds is already in the red zone of unhealthy options and choice of eateries, we certainly didn't need an 11th option of Pizza near our schools. Isn't it funny, people living in a community knowing a lot more than a load of councillors making a decision on a place they visited for an hour! #rantover I will be catching up with Sue McQuire and team from Garforth Plan after the Half Term break for a chat about this and other planning proposals/ideas.
Halloween – Have great fun on Wednesday celebrating what is one of my favourite and fun things to do, but, please remember there are still people out there who don’t always celebrate it. The rule in our house is, if there are no signs of any Halloween decorations. E.g a pumpkin or poster, we don’t knock. There are plenty of people that do and sweets are usually plentiful - Be kind and respectful out there.
I will be back after the half term holidays, in the meantime, Fred is taking over!
Until then, Happy Halloween
My name is Christine Thom, I came to live in Garforth 20 years ago; you may have seen me around ?
