A lovely start to the morning, trying my hand at Archery with my #thomboy at school. I knew 3 out of the 4 people who run the local bowman’s club too, my son asked if there was anybody I didn’t know in Garforth! It was such good fun, and if you didn’t know, we do have a local club in Garforth for kids and adults – have a look http://www.bowmen-of-leeds.co.uk/index.php
Last Friday, had a wonderful evening catch up with my old work colleagues – some I hadn’t seen for quite some time. My old boss was so excited to hear all about The Main Deal, and he said, this was definitely up my street and agreed I was terrible at being managed! I always wanted to do more than what could be done and always wanted to go against the grain. I don’t like the word no and I don’t like to be told what I can and can’t do. I know, it has its strengths and weaknesses!
I had a first meeting with Garforth Town Team this week, lots of great people from our local traders both independent and larger companies, we now need to assign roles and tasks. I have volunteered to take on, the task of lowering emissions, helping our environment and reducing plastic waste. As I have already been making connections on these matters, I thought it would be a good idea to take more of a grasp of it. Since then I have been speaking to our primary schools about the possibility of working together on a lowering emission project, such as asking parents to turn off their engines when dropping and picking up their children – it’s a start. I have lot of ideas which can work off the back of the Repair Cafe project
A few months ago you would have read about the Repair Café; no it’s not gone away, I’m still working hard on it, but as mentioned, with me wanting to hold it in the library, there is a bit of red tape, frustrating as it may be, if I am able to pull this off in our library, I'm hoping it can be rolled out across other libraries in our city! We now have 6 volunteers/fixers – so if you feel you have some skills that can help and be shown to teach others whilst making something work again, get in touch email@example.com – it will only be 1 Saturday every other month for 3-4 hours! Not much time required at all and your input could be so great.
I have another great meeting on Monday – reusable news…. I may be able to tell you more next week #waronplastics
If you follow on social media, you will have seen my ugly mug along with some of my beautiful team who work on Garforth Feastival, volunteers, giving their time to bring Garforth another fantastic street fun. As there are only 6 of us, we are wanting help from you the community on Friday the 12th July and Saturday 13th July to erect and take down stalls – we have a special trailer which will really help this year, but we would love some more volunteers to give us a hand – every little helps! If you can help, please email us on firstname.lastname@example.org or message us on our FB page.
