What happens when you shop local?
This is a great video, give yourself two minutes to watch it, you can watch without sound, but it gives you an idea how far £10 of your money can go when it is spent locally. Just copy and paste the link into google.
#MIG (Mum in Garforth)
Before I was pregnant, I visited a local mum and baby group as part of a project at work, and I remember thinking that it seemed pretty mind-numbing and no way would I be into something like it when I was a mum.
How wrong I was - now, a year and a half and a baby later, I really appreciate them. We have three groups we visit during the week (more on that later).
It's been nice meeting other mums and making friends, and gives a bit of a routine during the week. Most importantly, they provide much more stimulation than I can at home and Tommy seems to love them.
There are lots of groups and activities in the area, the choices are endless - play groups, baby massage, yoga, swimming, rhyme time, story time - but it's a bit difficult to figure out what runs where.
A lovely neighbour with an older baby gave me a good tip. There's a Facebook group called 'Mummies and mummies to be in Allerton Bywater and surrounding areas'. They have a list local groups in one place. It's a closed group and I'm waiting for confirmation, but wanted to pass along the tip to other mums looking for activities in the area.
If there's any other lists out there please do share! You can find me on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook @garforthkitchen.
Due to popular demand, Caroline Atha school of Dance is opening a new Saturday, Tots Class at The Garforth Welfare Hall, starting at 11.30 on Saturday 25th February. There are already a few places filled, so it would be advisable to get your little ones booked in soon.
If Saturdays don’t suit there are a few available spaces for your little ones age 3-5 on a Tuesday at 4,00pm at The Methodist Church, First sessions are free so you can get to see if your little ones enjoy their experience.

I'm hearing a rumour that, Harris Grocers have pulled out of taking over LadyCares old shop; nothing has been going on since Karen moved out, so there could be some truth in it! #watchandsee

Plans came in this week from Redrow Re: The proposed 238 homes to be built where Stocks Blocks used to be.
Listen to Mark Dobson here, telling you all the information you need to know about what Redrow homes are proposing
By the way, a NIMBY as Mark says, means, ‘Not In My Back Yard’
I like change but it has to be a good change that brings benefits to our town!
You can see this planning application permission here and object/comment. I would agree with Mark on this one, let’s get some objections in as it brings nothing to our town
The Ladies Fitness Centre, Gymophonics has been approved by planning, so we will see a new business opening above The GreenGrocers; the door on the front of the parade 32a leads upstairs
I’ve noticed the Vets from Garforth Train Station have their application in for moving in to one of the new builds near Lidl, at least this will give them more room, spaces to park and hopefully a good option to grow their business.
Love where you chose to live and then you become part of the change
Until next time……………….
My name is Christine Thom, I came to live in Garforth nearly 22 years ago; you may have seen me around ?
