I love fish and chips, as a lass from the north west I was grateful that soon after we moved here (1998) it wasn't long before they introduced gravy! Where are you getting your's tonight, which is your favourite local, chippy?
Well, we're truly back from holidays, it only takes a couple of days back to work and school before you feel you haven't been away; don't start me moaning about the amount of washing! We went to Mayrhofen in Austria, where we had all 4 seasons over 11 days. Apparently, the Austrians said summer was delayed…. From snow to rain, from rain to 29 degrees heat. Lots of activities, cycling, climbing, walking, swimming…... and schnitziling
Austria is beautiful as are the people, well mostly, the women seem to be more fun, the male population seemed so serious, which is never good for me; they didn’t even laugh when I was outside a souvenir shop trying on a cap with a mullet attached!
Thank you to Natalie, our local Travel Counsellor for sorting it all out, she got it so right on every aspect of the holiday and we will be booking with her again –

DO YOU HAVE BAD BREATH?
Quick test - Lick the inside of your wrist and sniff, if the smell is bad then it probably means you have bad breath…
What causes bad breath?
Persistent bad breath is usually caused by the smelly gases released by the bacteria that coat your teeth, gums and tongue. Also, bits of food that get caught between the teeth and on the tongue will rot and can sometimes cause an unpleasant smell. Strong foods like garlic, coffee and onions can add to the problem.
Bad breath can also be caused by some medical problems, such as dry mouth. Dry Mouth is a condition that means your mouth produces less saliva. This causes bacteria to build up in your mouth and this leads to bad breath.
Can smoking cause bad breath?
Yes. The only answer in this case is to stop smoking. As well as making your breath smell, smoking causes staining, loss of taste and irritates the gums. However, if stopping isn’t available to you at the moment, then your hygienist can be there to help you maintain your mouth and its freshness.
What should you do?
To keep your breath fresh, you must get rid of any gum disease and keep your mouth clean and fresh.
Brush your teeth and gums last thing at night and at least one other time during the day.
Don't forget to brush your tongue as well, or use a tongue scraper.
Visit your dental team regularly, as often as they recommend. However you can have your teeth and gums cleaned more frequently should you feel it’s required.
Clean in between your teeth with ‘interdental' brushes or floss at least once a day - brushing alone only cleans up to about 60% of the surface of your teeth. There are other products you can buy to clean between your teeth.
What shouldn’t you do?
Ignore the problem. Much better to book an appointment with your hygienist so that they can help you feel more confident when up and close with other people.
Disguise your bad breath with a mouthwash without getting to the bottom of why it’s there in the first place.
How can your hygienist help?
If you do have bad breath, you will need to start a routine for keeping your mouth clean and fresh. Regular check-ups will allow your hygienist to watch out for any places where plaque is caught between your teeth. They will be able to show you the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and show you any areas you may be missing.
Thank you to our wonderful guest blogger over the past three weeks, it's been great to have advice and information from one of our local businesses and to be able to use our platform to share it with you - if you would like to be a guest blogger for three weeks - contact me firstname.lastname@example.org - you don't have to be a small business to share your thoughts or advice.
Friday nights just got better
I had mentioned a few blogs ago that we were getting another chain business here in Garforth – not overly happy that it’s Screwfix Direct – as again, it put’s pressure on our local independents who have already had a downturn due to Home Bargains. The only positive is local jobs – so in order you can get them, apply for the retail supervisor role they currently have advertised https;//jobs.screwfix.com search under Garforth
We are still waiting for the decision to be made on a great new cocktail bar – information should be in soon
It has been good to read from our local counsellors page that the plans for 51 Redrow homes to be built on Kennet Lane has been withdrawn
Until next week.....
My name is Christine Thom, I came to live in Garforth nearly 22 years ago; you may have seen me around ?
