Sadly, when the schools decide to shut we have a heap of people snowing on, sorry, moaning on, and on, and on, and on about how awful it is that schools shut and back in their day they had bombs coming down and still went to school – yes someone actually said this!
The thing is, we’re in 2018 not 1941 and schools really don’t want to shut, do they? They have things in place if our children are late twice in one week, so they are never going to close the schools on a whim. Decisions are made on circumstances and mainly taken from a safety aspect, one being, are there enough staff in to keep our children safe? I don’t suppose safety was considered back then when bombs, ‘may’ have been dropping from the air! So when our schools close, we must respect and have a better understanding, and it’s for a really good reason.
We will never been truly geared up for horrendous snow conditions, we’re not Canada who know year on year, the snow comes, stays and you can drive a bus through the middle of a 40ft snow wall. Do you think our local council or government would pay out for more resources that would sit in a shed for months and possibly years just in case we have bad snowfall? We certainly need to be thankful that Leeds City Council were working round the clock with their gritters making sure all major roads in and out of towns were gritted.
Most businesses are understanding when time is taken off because schools close, and I know, not always an easy task, especially if you’re in an industry where your job means you have to care for people’s well-being. Let’s hope spring is on the way, who knows, next week the new Mac might be out and the winter coat can be put away for another year #hereshoping Stay safe this weekend.
