It has been another busy week in TMD HQ, as well as work and sorting things out for our up and coming #useyourloaf promotion, it has also been a big birthday for the eldest #thomboy now aged 12. At 12 you can watch better films, take adult medicines (not sure this is something to celebrate) but sadly, at 12, you can no longer go to most soft play centres, all say boo. So last week, I took both #thomboys to test out the newly refurbished, Monkey Maze.
This was our thoughts;
Thomboy 1 – aged 7 – ‘ It’s good for younger kids, but it’s not as big as before, I liked it better before’
Thomboy 2 – aged 11 – ‘there was more to do in the old one, it looks really big but it’s mainly mirrors at the back’ great for 5 year olds’
ThomMum – The cafe area is much better, from supervising your children and the choices of food and drinks are also better and it’s much cleaner and brighter too

In trying to research ‘how to write a good blog’, it highlights how fortunate we are to have access to such a great local community. Yes, hi! I’m back again. After a week of family busy-ness and drama, I’ve found some space to pull some thoughts together.
CHRISTMAS!!! Oh wow, I do actually really love it. Don’t get me wrong, I know it can be the hardest time of the year, and oh how it can highlight of loss and grief. But I think that is an important journey and those memories are often so valuable. The funny anecdotes we recall can bring healing tears.
The saddest thing for me is when Christmas highlights a lack, a lack of a family Christmas, of fun and care and time around the table putting the world right. When company is missing and the manic marketing only goes to rub salt in the wounds of what we think everyone else is experiencing. Whether that’s childhood past, or current experiences, I feel it’s such a robbery.
I love Christmas because yes, I am a Christian so it has a profound special place as a celebration. (And yes, I know the roots of the date are pagan, bear with me here! It’s not a Jesus rant. It’s about getting back to what it should be.)
If you’re having a birthday party, you don’t want any of your guests to feel like they may as well not have turned up. Or like they don’t really fit in. Even worse, that they shouldn’t have some food or cake because they weren’t on the invite list but just a plus one. You’d want everyone to go home saying they’d had a great time! Maybe even a party bag full of lovely stuff, a real treat of an event. Best. Day. Ever.
This will be our 8th Christmas morning opening. We didn’t the first year, I mean it’s a bit odd to go to work on Christmas Day if you don’t have to eh? But that first year, we came back to work in the New Year and were so saddened by some people’s Christmas time. How could we have dear regulars, who didn’t see anyone on Christmas or Boxing Day??! Wow.
So this year will be the same again, a disorganised hour or so of coffee and friends. We will also be around at the Christmas lights switch on market, and will be doing our Cielo Sings Carols on the 23rd December.
I’m so glad we look out for our neighbours and check in on people we know who may need a hello. Well done Garforth, I think we’re really good at this! Seth Godin says “How was your day?” is a question that matters a lot more than it seems.

If you haven’t caught up on social media, Mark Dobson and Jackie Simpson from Garforth Flood Group went to shout very loud at planning panel yesterday, unfortunately heir last attempt to get their points across about what problems are going to occur when these houses come, even though their points are completely valid and realistic, they were not listened to, LCC have just let the developers get what they want; which is lots of money.
No-one has ever disagreed that something else other than Stocks Blocks would be better suited to this land, however I feel like a lot of you do, 241 houses are not it – I’m sure we will all look forward to the road works, the disruption, the flooding, the lack of school provision and overpriced houses that very few can afford.
Leeds City Council Planning Panel…. Proving time and time again that the people in towns , do not have a voice
20th November – Road Works widening at the existing traffic signal junction between Main Street, Aberford Road, Wakefield Road and Barrowby lane.
The works will be carried out from 20th November for approximately 6 weeks from 9.30am – 3.30pm, helping to avoid peak time traffic.
There will be a 4 way traffic light system in place and the works will be restricted from Monday-Friday only.
This weekend, i’s the start of the major Christmas Shopping for many – Give it a try, a local shop buy
The likes of Pease, Dorothy Annes, Pride and Produce, The Station House Cafe, The Gin Shack, Personal Touch by Rachel and our local beauticians plus man more, we have some great choices
