Facebook has been driving me and hundreds of other business page users around the bend this week, every time Facebook decides to do an update, something else stops working, this whole week has seen the disappearing of the ‘share’ option from the business pages, which is a nightmare when I share so many others I follow, so you may have seen information with a lot of, link language underneath and that’s because I have had to go round the houses in order to keep posting the great information they share. FB have said they’re fixing it, 1 week in; we’re still waiting! I’m surprised FB hasn’t crashed with the huge massive thread of complaints it’s had from around the world…. Let’s hope I don’t go bald before they fix it; I’ve just had my hair done!
Well what a busy week for news in and around Garforth….
Lidl store coming to Miami. I suppose I’m happier it’s this than a massive competitor of Tesco’s with a larger store; Lidl might actual compliment what’s here.
On the other hand, after attending the meeting tonight to hear what Lidl and KUC (developers for Miami) had to say, I made it clear to them I was very concerned about the other bigger outlets as ‘in my opinion‘ the worst thing they could put there would be a Poundland or The Range type store… ! this will kill a fair few shops on Main Street and some people would just give up coming in. I asked Lidl where they going to put something in that would be empathetic to what was on Main Street or just take the highest bidder?… they stumbled in there answer, which was, ‘we have a marketing agent that will sort the other 2 retail units after we get planning for Lidl’ I also spoke to KUC’s John Quinton Barber he seemed more empathetic and understood my cause for concern, as he follows Garforth Hour and Garforth Today and knows what I’m trying to do as well as his knowledge of Garforth Traders Association. – I will follow up with a letter and see where it gets me! Overall the Lidl looks pretty nice, a bit posh! The traffic guys were talking about the road plans and it seems as though it might actual benefit the likes of Bar Lane… we’ll see
New 2000 seat cinema at Thorpe Park, if their plans for a train station comes off too, I think this would be a great connection for Garforth

What we want and what we get are two very different things, my whole ethos behind The Main Deal is to give it a future by encouraging people to use what’s local and if bigger things come along, try and work with it; I’m a plastic scouser #wirral and have a loud annoying voice when I want to, but being from the posh side know how to use it wisely! So if it does come along, my foots already in to door for it work WITH the current traders
As usual, lots of people on various Social Media sites are having their say about what should or shouldn’t happen in Garforth, I understand the passion, but I never understand the aggressive negatives, where does it get you? But some people say what they like behind their tablets and computers with a profile picture of a flower #whoamI #hidingbehindtechnology

Hearing on the grapevine, one of our local shops will be departing Main Street in March and a new one already in the pipeline, not sure of new occupier as yet #watchthisspace but let’s hope it’s something independent and unique
Some of our businesses are looking to make decisions this year as to whether they stay or go and all because it’s #losingsupport of it’s customers – please keep the alive by just shopping local

DON’T FORGET – WORKS ARE BEING CARRIED OUT by Northern Electrical from next, Monday 18th January
Works will take approximately 6 weeks as they lay new cabling from one end of Ninelands road to ‘The Lines’ so as diversions will probably be put in place, just be mindful of school children when you cut through the estate

A few people have asked recently If I would ever, in the future of Garforth, step up for local council. I will say this only once…NEVER. I love what I do and I do it for the local businesses and community with no political red tape involved or people accusing me of doing things I should or shouldn’t do.
I’m purely here to show the people of the place I live how good Garforth is; if they look hard enough they will see it too. I also want to make sure our local traders, shops and businesses have a future. I have no desire to tread on political toes or even get anywhere near what goes down with local government, this is a completely separate unbiased business which is unique to our town
Hats off to Mark Dobson he does a grand job, but I’m sure I’m not the only person who wouldn’t want his job for love nor money.
