The rain has such an impact on footfall for our local businesses, people do not want to go out in the rain. We are lucky that raincoats, hoods, and umbrellas were invented, imagine how wet we would be if they weren’t! So please keep going out, rain or shine, it’s fine, it’s just a pain in the rain.
Covid cases seem to be on the rise at The Academy again. Before last week, the last email I remember about a Covid case, was the 1st of April, however, over the last 10 days, we have seen an email a day, which then means all the children around that case also have to isolate, losing another 10 days of school – would it not make sense to send children who have been near or in contact with cases, to have a PSR test a few days later, wait for the results, and the return back to school? It would then mean only a few days out of school rather than another 10? We cannot go on like this, the pressure on children and teaching staff is immense, and we need to move forward. If any parents, friends, and family members who are more at risk of being seriously ill are now being vaccinated, and the government is confident that they will have some protection from new variants, then surely we should let kids go back in, should it be proven they do not have Covid; am I just a parent that doesn’t ever want to do homeschooling again? I have my eldest revising for his Mocks and my youngest who’s soon to go up to secondary school. Assessing and teaching what they’ve missed and keep missing out on, is hard going on kids and Teachers. Sad to read that Pronto is no longer working with Garforth eateries. The Station House Cafe used them a lot, and it worked really well for them. I felt there is a need to cover all aspects of food and drink for a service to fully work in our area and I’ve recently noticed that Deliveroo is starting to grow here and not just in, West Garforth, they are delivering from restaurants and takeaways outside of Garforth too. I suspect it won’t be long before local restaurants join in, should they wish to offer takeout service.
It was nice to read this week that we have seen a huge surge in entrepreneurs in the UK. It shows some silver linings over this past year, people who have perhaps had an idea are going about doing something different, and it’s given them thought to do it now. I’ve also read, billionaires across the world have had a jump in wealth! Send some this way… I mean, what do you need a billion for?
As Portugal opens their holiday doors for people wanting some sun; well who wouldn’t in this climate?
