…since Christmas payday?
Thirty days hath September, April, June, and November, all the rest have 31; February, you’re on your own, but January has bloody loads …… well, since Christmas payday that is! You see, this is one of the reasons I hate January…cravings, thing’s I can’t have; don’t worry, my larger-than-average bottom is thanking me for not caving into sweet cravings. But the craving for the payday after Christmas is miserable isn’t it?…. and when it does turn up, the January sales are over, and you’re left with the Tat they have brought out of the broom cupboard from 2008, only to be left hanging! However, all is not lost, the challenge of what I can make out of the food in my cupboard that has been left for… some time, is something to look forward to, it’s also at this point, I realise I have far too much pasta, flour, rice, tins of soup and, who bought that can of fruit? Mmmm, what can I make for dinner? The challenge is on.

Give Blood
This week was my 8th donation of giving blood, which I’m proud of, but I know a little old friend who, over his lifetime, has given 100 donations. WOW, If you can donate, please do so, it’s one of the easiest things you can do to help a stranger in need. The local donation centre closest to us is The Church of Latter Day Saints, on the way to Crossgates. It takes less than an hour to donate. You wait for your name to be called (sometimes the names called are very funny, almost worth the wait) First, they test your blood to check your suitability for donation that day, (you may be iron deficient) If all is good, you sit back and relax whilst you donate a pint of your blood (your blood will typically replenish after 24 hours), when you have finished, you get given a choice of snacks and a drink before you leave, and your donation is done. Local External Defibrillators
I have found an App. it’s called Debifmap which in time, will show you all the available defibrillators in the area you’re searching. I am looking to add all the external ones in Garforth, as these will be accessible 24 hours a day. The thing you have to do is, take a picture and then add it to the site, it goes off to an email address and then I guess, their admin will add it to the App. ( you could help do this too if you’re out walking) It is important to know that if you need to call 999 they will tell you where the nearest one is, but for reference and knowledge locally, I think this will be only helpful. Unlike our other two races at St Aidan’s Country Park, St Aidan’s Winter Beast is not flat, and it’s not easy. The course takes in sections off the well-trodden paths and trails, to give you some genuine climbs and (weather permitting!) some proper cross-country mud! That said, if you pause to catch your breath there are some great views of the park to be had from the top!
