Trust me, I keep my ear to the ground. I’ve got the technical know-how to be among the first to know when something’s coming to Garforth, or when there’s a cat’s whisper that turns out to be factually true, rather than a bit of coffee-shop natter where someone’s caught half a word and spun their own rumour from it.
I’ve got Google Alerts and AI working away like a private PA, letting me know the moment the internet so much as sniffs something new. Don’t get me wrong, there’s always a chance I won’t be the very first to bring you the news. But I can be the first to bring you the facts, not the fiction.
RUMOUR HAS IT Boyes was coming to take over TOFS building, but I have done all my inspector Clouseau searches, and tapped into the Directors and Puchasers on Linkedin and there’s nothing doing, and nothing obvious that they are coming into Garforth – so it stays at present as just another Aldi rumour!

Oh for Car Park Sake
In my opinion, and if anyone copies and pastes this, and it brings some unwanted noise from others, there’s no real issue with this being a chargeable car park. In fact, plenty of businesses and people in the community have told me how great it’s been to finally get a space to shop or use the services of a business – 1 hour free, and only then chargeable – pretty reasonable
The actual issue is where all the cars that used to park there daily have now gone instead. We’re talking about commuters, shop owners and some of the people using the shops, all displaced and looking for somewhere else to leave their cars.
So, the solution isn’t to make the car park free again. It’s to sort out the knock-on effect that should have been planned for in the first place. Barley Hill car park SCREENSHOT HERE! could be the answer here, but it needs to be made suitable and safe to use, properly lit and easy to access, especially through the winter months.

I emailed Ben at Highways this week to see if there is any updates after the drone videos I sent – even a timeline of when we can look at the Traffic Regulation Order request being put in – tapping my nails on my desk... I’m still waiting for a reply from Ben!

Planning
- Looks like Miller and Carter have plans to extend their outside offering – let’s hope it gets through to be able to sit outside and enjoy a beer or two
- Padel Courts. This one’s just gone into planning. The team behind it are proposing four padel courts on the grass area near Garforth Garden Centre, and it would be a brilliant addition to the town, something for everyone to enjoy. The people looking to build it want it to be all about the community, getting people active, together and outdoors in natureGive them a follow to keep up with their plans, and fingers crossed, because this would be a real win for Garforth. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61590040261049And if you’d love to see this go ahead, please show your support on the Leeds City Council planning application.
