I hope you’ve all had a good break, especially the teachers, who more than most deserve the brain rest. Not a job I’d want for love nor money. We didn’t manage to get away this summer, down to a few things, but mainly a dog issue. When the kids want a dog, it somehow ends up being yours, seven years on.
Lots of things happen in September: new schools, colleges, and transitions to different things – it’s great for young people having more options once they leave school – I hope all do well on their next year up! Just don’t let them leave home; you never get used to it!

Miller and Carter reopens
Booked us in for opening night and wow, the interiors are gorgeous. The space has had a proper rethink too; what used to be just the bar area is now a private dining space you can hire out. Food was excellent, though I always rated it here anyway. If you’re a meat lover, the steak options are well worth it. We all ordered something different, and all came away with happy tummies.
The outdoor space has been extended as well, so when we hit heatwave number six, this is the spot.

PLANNING
I’ve had a little breakthrough on the three roads in Garforth with serious, frustrating traffic issues: Church Lane, Ninelands Lane and Green Lane. I actually got a reply from Highways, one level up from Ben this time, and it included others in the loop. I was hoping they were actually up to date, but no! Despite the push, it doesn’t feel like anything I’ve said has landed, including the drone evidence I sent over. So after my returned email, pointing a fair few things out, let’s wait and see what comes back.
What I feel we actually need is a pilot scheme to test whether intermittent yellow lines can work. The goal is to manage the roads properly, not just shift the problem by slapping yellow lines down everywhere.
Why am I getting involved? Because it’s stopping people from using local businesses, it’s a genuine safety issue with speeding, and honestly, it’s down to people in the community to try and sort it. So that’s exactly what I’m doing.
Nope
Still don’t know anything new about the TOFS old building – it was under offer in July, and then it seems to still be there online for rent! Work has been carried out by tradesmen; other than that, I have neither seen nor heard anything more.
A proposed Parish Council
Sorry to disappoint if you were hoping for my ‘views’ (apparently I have loads!) We will, as we’ve always done, just share the information about the proposed Parish Council. More on that once the next part of the process lands.
FYI, albeit the allegations – there is no parish council committee proposed because we don’t know if there will be a parish council!
