The Academy breaks up on Wednesday, and then we can officially chill, or juggle!
No more packed lunches, ironed uniforms, polished shoes, water bottles, PE kits, after school clubs, lessons where things are required from, flour to cereal boxes. It will be peaceful on a morning as there will be 6 weeks less of, Bad Mum shouting ‘time to brush your teeth, get your shoes on, grab your bag, look at the state of your hair, where’s your book, have you done your homework, grab your scooter, WE’RE GOING TO BE LATE’ moments. #bringiton

The Gasgoine also held a local Charity event on behalf or Reggie Yates which many of you will know, and they too had a wonderful day raising funds.
Cielo had a jam packed evening event, celebrating 10 years of independent business in Garforth, with a crowd of 90 fiends, family and customers.
Station House also provided full entertainment throughout the whole of feastival and evening with wonderful music.
Quirky’s night time Feastival event was also very well attended, and folk were entertained by our local talent, which is, Luke Flear – I think Garforth have adopted him.
So to carry on the Super Saturdays – tomorrow we have GFest a fabulous, family friendly festival with music, stalls and entertainment which looks to be fabulous and what a great big thing to do, not only a great fundraiser for a wonderful charity, which is so close to many peoples hearts, but to bring our community together, again. Well done Andy Daw, his family and friends who are putting on this amazing event, I truly hope this is a wonderful success.

Please join me for one of my new sessions at The Station House. Drop in and make a handmade Carta (card) and have a hot drink either as you craft or before / after – it’s your choice!
This is a leisurely and social session where you can drop in anytime between 9.30 and 11 am to make your carta. All materials to complete your carta along with any guidance / support will be provided. Hot drinks can be ordered from the cafe. It will take around half an hour to complete your carta so please allow enough time. Why not bring a friend and craft as you chat?
The cost of this session is £5, if ordering your drink before you make your carta please let the staff know you are here for the carta and drink session; I will collect any monies and settle up with the Cafe once the session is over.

Another Project
Over the summer holidays I will be researching an idea for a ‘repair cafe’ which we have had the go ahead to do, from the library, who will also be getting involved. A repair cafe brings peoples skills to the table whilst also helping people fix things that are broken. We are such a throw away society and these repair cafe’s could really help us recycle the things we once used. I am hoping to get some skilled workers who have perhaps, hung up their tools, who could come and help us, fix and mend. We are looking for someone who is a good DIYer to someone who can fix small electrical items to someone who could sew, knit, make clothing. We intend to run several workshops with different themes of things that could be mended or made into something super again. We are hoping it will bring people together, and bring our retired folk to help with what skills, experience and knowledge they have If this sounds like something you would want to get involved in, please do email me: Christine@themaindeal.co.uk

Update on the works to be undertaken at Charlie Sweeps Corner:
Dear Cllr Dobson,
I am pleased to say that following continued pressure, payment for the highway works at Charlie Sweep’s Corner was received from Persimmon last Friday.
On receipt of this payment, a works order has been issued to Colas to construct these works. Colas will now need to mobilise their resources before provisionally starting on site in August, hopefully making good use of the reduced traffic over the school holiday period.
Officers within my team, responsible for the design and supervision of the works, will undertake a further consultation/information exercise when a definite start date is confirmed.
I see Stephen Pressley Hair Salon will be moving, which is good news as he is staying in Garforth but wanting to build on what the salon can offer. It’s always great news when we hear of a business able to expand. I hear he is moving to the building at the back of Martin House and Sainsbury’s – Good luck Stephen
Which also means there is potential space available – I’m already on it!
As a lot of you will know, Garforth Academy this week put in a new policy to have all children access the front of the school, only, so they could make checks on uniform, makeup and planners. Fair enough if children are not adhering to school policies, but unfortunately it has caused quite some upset amongst parents who where asked for their children to walk along a very busy, Selby Road instead of the field at the back of the school from The Lines. But today, we have received an email from the powers that be, to inform us that the back field will now have a gate open so children can walk safely through school to the front entrance – It took many, many emails from parents and the local Councillors to get involved for the school to decide his was a better idea! #eyestothesky
Anyway
We now say goodbye until September, and hope you all enjoy your school/summer holidays, wherever you may be going, from Camping to somewhere, I’d say warm, but I think we’ve had our fill here right in the UK! I’m hoping it continues into the holidays and the usual, school holidays tap of rain doesn’t get switched on
