Well, School is out today for summer – First year for me juggling summer holidays and work

Look local too for holiday activities, including our Library.  Lotherton Hall also has events on throughout the holidays, Garforth Golf Range is also open for you and your children to go and have a few fun sessions as well as Garforth Town Football Club with its summer school and Garforth Parish Cricket Club with it’s week of cricket for only £5, you can also use our soft play centres and the days British summer shows itself – rain

Sweetshakes will also be open from 10am every day – I have meeting with the ladies on the 29th and looking forward to making some suggestions and seeing where I can help out with their advertising

In the summer, our traders can struggle at these times as everyone goes away or go further afield, just pop in, don’t forget to use them especially if you want them to be here in the autumn and winter months.

Garforth Arts Festival
If you missed it, you missed out, if you heard it from where you live, it was great.  People should celebrate this wonderful engagement of music and arts that happens once every year in our town rather than moaning and having a go about the noise.  As a family of 4, we were all entertained all day, with a circus tent, bouncy castles, food offerings, stalls, ice cream, organic Candy Floss,  Artists, funny men with hoola hoops and characters pretending to be in a hot air balloon, the spirit was that of community.  You should all come along every year, the diversity of music was wonderful and Seth Lakeman now has  new fan #easyontheeye too – For £45 for a family of 4 you do get a lot, you would pay more to go and see one artist live! Celebrate the good in our town and well done to to all the traders that also got involved too.

 
NEW business on The Main Deal
This week I welcome Rachel from Garforth Pilates who sits nicely on our Keep me Fit and Healthy category with our Zumba classes and Slimming World Club.  Garforth Pilates is run every Tuesday evening at 6.15pm at the Garforth Welfare Hall – check Rachel’s classes out for more details

Garforth Community Choir

This is all going in the right direction and after a great meeting at The Bird in Hand about the next few steps with Maggie Hargreaves who is one of those great people who gives her  time to her own community, we now have a Facebook page, please join if you are interested in joining in.

Word on the Street
Congratulations to Scribblers Play Group celebrating 50 years being in Garforth and letting our children have fun, grow and find some independents before they go to school

I see work has started on the pipe work and chicane on Ninelands Road, if all plans go ahead, we should see better traffic calming here once they have finished the necessary underground work,  the chicane has just encouraged people to drive faster to get past it.

I see some people are sticking to the new 20 mile zones but I do find it difficult myself sometimes to go this slow, I’m constantly looking at the speedometer – when everyone is doing 20mph down Ninelands Road I feel like I’m on a toddler ride and I’ve picked the old fashioned car; but it’s all for a good reason and I do agree that more towns should look at making it a safer place for both cars and pedestrians  

It appears Leeds City Council is looking into catering for more spaces for people to use Marshall Street; just off Main Street as a 2 hour limited waiting area. Not sure how effective this will be in an already small area that our Traders need to use in order they can park near their own shops, especially when they have to pick up and drop off goods.  I’m just hoping that this isn’t the council trying to squeeze in spaces as seen as Wetherspoons are not offering any!
