Mia’s Nails (new business) have opened where Scream Hairdressers used to be, Chapel Lane. A very nice couple, Mia and Tuan. Mia has been a qualified beautician for over 20 years and joined us on Tuesday for Garforth hour.
Garforth Hour went well this week, not as many businesses there this time, but we did have a special guest, Harry Gration from BBC Look North, a great surprise to all the people who attended Garforth Hour and great publicity for Garforth as Harry Re-tweeted pictures and photographs about promoting garforth local businesses.
Thanks also to Nicky Busby who kindly asked Harry to come along and support the growth of Garforth Hour Live nights. Nicky is a great local lady who is extremely passionate about Yorkshire and a wonderful and keen photographer. Nicky is also running for Jane’s Appeal and has a goal to run 1000k this year, so far she has reached 884k – can you give her help and sponsor her in her mission – look on her great twitter page for more details and information @Yorkshireimages – a local lady doing great things.

White Lines!! – well white something
It’s taken 17 months, a pot of white paint and 20 minutes to get the small ‘T’ type paint marks on Fairburn Drive outside the parade of shops; to say I’m a little disappointed…. I asked for PARKING LINES. They did however, put double yellow lines on the corner, where nobody parks!
I just hope over time when people get used to them, that it makes parking better – the staff in Chris’ shop have said people are definitely using them and parking is better. As usual, a few people are also voiced their opinion about them! I campaigned to put them here to make people park better, safer and get more cars parked together in order we encourage people to stop and shop. As mentioned in last week’s blog, we’re also waiting for a Restriction Time sign in order people and staff of shops don’t take the spaces for a longer period of time …. perhaps another 17 months! Let’s just hope it’s big enough to read
A fair few traders and people thought we were getting a new shop this week! When Habits signage was taken down, it revealed an old disused sign for Stefans Jewellers – I’m fairly sure if Genix’ plans get passed through planning, their sign will be up next, loud and clear – I think it will help people gain access better too. #84second stannah stairlift is a bit tedious!
I see a lot of our business owners throughout the week, and the same conversation comes up each time, why is there not pattern to why people choose to either come to a shop, come to a local fitness class or stop in for a coffee? A lot of people have a lot to say about Garforth and what it should be and how it could improve and how much we have of this and that there’s not enough of that…. shop with what we’ve got, or it WILL BE GONE… I’m shouting as its reality not a plea..
Just a thought – Kippax high street lost the support of its community!

I will be away this weekend with my old school friends from the. Wirral. I decision made a while back that when the 40th year was upon us, we would celebrate in style, with fun, laughter and a few cheeky glasses of vino. Thankfully my Main Deal Facebook page is not linked to my personal one… as well as staying in a luxurious cabin in the middle of North Wales, one of my old bosom buddies thought it would be a grand idea to also hire a canal boat for day trip on the proviso that 23 years ago I was in the Sea Cadets! Wish me luck #prayforme
This week has seen Facebook and Twitter extremely busy, with a weekly reach of 5,895 and Twitter growing in followers. I also reached a massive number this week on Twitter – I have sent 10,000 tweets! Sharing is caring.
