Last weekend my husband and I had a great evening with Quirky Ales and Ambers Kitchen who is also one of the team who runs and coordinates the, Three Sisters Supper Club at Cielo.

We had an evening of tasting, food and ale! Now, I’m not one for drinking ale, I’m more of a red wine kind of girl, and having plenty of practice drinking the good stuff, I know what works best with what food, but I never knew ale could do the same thing. The pairing evening ran from 7pm and we sat with other local people; I always think it’s great to meet new people. It was also great to see a bar in Cielo in the place I normally stand in waiting for my hot milk Americano, the bar had pumps and everything.
The night went smoothly and not only from a beer point of view, the service was wonderful and friendly, the food was spectacular and the combination was perfectly matched, it was well thought out and gave me a whole new experience and appreciation of fine ales. Mike and Mark the men behind Quirky, where on hand and extremely informative throughout the evening by bringing pots of fabulous aromas to the tables, letting us smell the hops they use in each quirky ale.
Adam surprised us with his choice of food, as you will see, Pigs Cheeks were on the menu, a new one for me, the taste was fabulous, and would you ever think you could taste something so different locally!
I couldn’t take a picture of Adam’s Chocolate Brownie, It was my time for peace and quiet why I consumed the best brownie I have ever tasted #sshhhnow

Thank you for your return email.
Firstly, I am glad you are aware of the multitude of problems we have, as you mention, ‘you have looked at this issue recently and over previous, YEARS!’ Years…yet still nothing has been done? Over those years of looking at the problem, the situation has worsened and as you know over those years we’ve had more ‘add on’ housing development and it seems only those roads around that development are altered. What about the impact it has on the rest of the infrastructure, we’ve had a development at Green Lane School for example was 60 more children have been added; more people mean more cars!!
As you have already stipulated, Church Lane is one of the MAIN routes through Garforth, so the council thought it would be wise to make an extremely difficult main route that requires risk to get up and down it to 20 miles an hour, this has made the situation even more difficult.
Yes of course there is always a funding issue, but you’ve noticed this problem for YEARS, at what point does it become priority, a fight, an accident, a decline to Main Street businesses; which is already happening because of it? Perhaps borrowing some money from planning may help!
I know whatever cause of action you take you will upset someone, the people in the houses on Church Lane, no-one would be forcing them to use it, but if they can’t park at the ‘front’ of their house and there’s another option to park at the ‘back’ of their house it does give another option to some, even if it’s for only a few hours a day, maybe just at peak time? If the Traffic Regulation order came back and all 20+ houses on Church Lane objected, yet 5,000+ Garforth residents where for a change, who wins?
The Council need to look at what cars are there in the day, as a lot of people work, but even 6 cars for example parked on Church Lane at sporadic points, causes chaos due this road being a major bus route. I’m not complaining about how bad Church Lane is I’m requesting an immediate change as I’m extremely concerned about the impact it’s having on our local businesses, another couple of years is too long to wait, if you put in a consultation process and then wait for the another budget, another year and then as I know with Fairburn Drive Road markings, you’re talking another possible 2 years before anything gets done. I can quite honestly say that the majority of the locals will all say the same; which may save the council time and money, ‘this road is horrendous’ even for the residents who park there.
Yes it would be wiser and make more sense to spend money widening the Road to keeps everyone happy, however, something temporary needs to be done, a pilot scheme even to see what works? Has anyone ever spoke to the Cricket Club to see if they would help in anyway?
How could I/we make this a priority, videos sent to the council of the chaos, a petition, a chat to houses, a chat to businesses, or because of the lack of funding would this be a complete waste of my time? Councillor Dobson suggested a contribution from the traders; they’re already struggling to keep their heads above water, they have no money to contribute, I know this to be fact.
Councillors and Leeds City Council can’t complain that businesses are now concerned, as it wasn’t the residents or businesses that said yes to all the development that has gone on over the last several years. Garforth has changed dramatically over the last 20 years, but the infrastructure hasn’t.
Leeds City Council will spend more money in years to come if the high street declines!
