Its the May Bank Holiday and Tour De Yorkshire weekend #CELEBRATETHEGOOD

A busy week in the office, making time to polish my accounts for my Self Assessment; thank goodness I have a great accountant at Business Works who makes life easier.

Augustus Court, Meridian Care Home – Events

I have attended two great events at Augustus Court this week.

Open day to the public – Saturday 23rd April
What a great and fun day this was, the home was busy with lots of people  and having to eat beautiful afternoon cakes and tea!  Garforth Community Choir were also singing which is always great fun, seeing people joining in, tapping feet and swinging to the music, especially the lovely resident of Augustus Court, Doris… a lovable character of the home who was happy dancing away with her zimmer frame whilst the choir was belting out a few great tunes..

Dorinda’s school of Dance was also performing with many of the young girls who attend the dance school, some were so weenie #verycute they put on a fabulous performance,.  I was looking over at the residents watching and you could see a little twinkle in their eye, as though they were reminiscing about their youth Well done girls. #greattalent

Official Open Day – Wednesday 27th April
A very busy afternoon with the staff,  residents, their families, the developers, the interior designers and the special guests, Angela Rippon and Leeds Mayor along with Garforth Lions and Garforth in Bloomers, more afternoon tea and cakes #itsahardjob a great pianist playing jazz and lots of members of the HC group and PR team making this a wonderful afternoon.

                               Augustus Court is officially open

The staff  have worked really hard over the last few months putting on great days as well as running the home with new residents in attendance.  Go along, pop in and meet the great Team, speak to the lovely Mary Usher, the Care Homes Team Manager or phone and ask for details. There are lots of things planned over this Bank Holiday weekend from

  • The Garforth and District Lions, Spring Craft Fair is on tomorrow
  • Helping out the RNLI tomorrow, there will be an exercise bike challenge outside Lloyds Pharmacy – have a go, help them raise some funds for this great cause

  • #TOURDEYORKSHIRE comes to a town nearby at, Barwick and Scholes, the town have gone to a massive amount of effort to receive the cyclists and local businesses and community have really come together to celebrate a great occasion – check out their Facebook page for all the details and what’s on offer including parking and access on the day  https://www.facebook.com/barwickandscholes/?fref=ts

  • http://lothertonhallfoodanddrinkfestival.co.uk/home.html Lotherton Hall, near Leeds, becomes a new addition to the food festival calendar in 2016. With the stunning surroundings of the hall & it’s gardens we felt it was the perfect setting for a food festival. The best news is, it will cost you no more for your entry over the weekend either, just your usual entrance fee of £5.50 for adults & £2.70 for children! Entrance for annual pass holders of the hall remains free of charge.
  • Globe Not for Profit will officially open tomorrow on Kippax High Street, Louise and the team have been working really hard getting it all set up ready for its open day.  Globe not for Profit will be supplying, Chris’ Fruit and Veg as well as lines of stock from Old Leodenisian Coffee,  local to Kippax – The shop will be open from 10am tomorrow, so please, go and visit or keep up to date with them on Facebook  https://www.facebook.com/groups/globenotforprofit/

#WOTS (word on the street)

The metal barriers around The Liberal Club (new Wetherspoons Site) is to protect against vandalism so I’m afraid you can’t get too excited yet  – I did see this week on one of the community pages; someone was starting another rumour about Wetherspoons no longer coming because Sainsbury’s had said no to them delivering on their land #utterrubbish .. Technical words for, that’s not true!

THE LADY CARES –  SET TO LEAVE

Some of you may have heard already, but the lovely shop, The Lady Cares will be closing by the end of this year, I know for one, I will be extremely sad for this to go and for lots of reasons,

  1. It’s a great shop to get lots of great things, cheaper #itsnotjustforladies
  2. Karen and the team have been here on Main Street for a long time and jobs will be lost
  3. This is what happens when no one shops, when people STOP shopping locally.  This is the reality if you don’t make any effort
  4. An Empty shop
  5. SHOW YOUR SUPPORT AS THE REALITY IS NOW HERE

Domino’s is coming……..  Just a rumour at the minute, but I am checking it out to be sure

Genix Dentist is due to complete its expansion, downstairs at the end of May,  #oldhabits #illuminatedsigns going up

No signs yet for the new Southern Fried Chicken shop – what do you think, it will be called?

Garforth Fried Chicks!
Chickens of Garforth
Northern Fried Chicken!
Yorkshire Fried birds!

Fun guessing game, but it’s likely it will be called SFC

I believe Louis Theroux was also in Garforth last week,  in Daniel Yorath House by all accounts filming for one of his television shows!

Planning

I see the development for the former depot, Green Lane is back in planning for  Consent Agreement or  approval is required for certain conditions, this may explain why no work has been carried out on this site for a while.

Until next week…….

MAKE THE EFFORT NOT AN EXCUSE
