The good people in the world outway the bad, Jo Cox will always be remembered and worshipped; she will always shine through for what she believed was good
And the life for the man who took a mother, a wife, a daughter a friend and a great campaigner will be hated for the rest of his life.

As mentioned, this Saturday, 18th June, see’s a 1st – Gaping Goose’s first Cider Festival – I have been sharing their choice of Cider’s on Facebook all week, there’s lots to choose from
It takes place on Saturday 18th June 12pm – 6pm, Top Garage will be opened up selling a range of cask, keg and boxed ciders. There will also be a ladies bar selling bottles of cider and Pimms/Prosecco/Wine. There will be a catering van so you wont get hungry, A few bands and a DJ playing throughout the day. Admission is £3 on gate which will be donated to Garforth Lions. No Dogs and no under 13’s please.

- We saw some fun this week with Pride and Produce with their very own, #dancinggranny famous across the local news groups which has also put Pride & Produce and Garforth on the map

- It’s nice to see the Traders have joined in the football sweep, a fair few of the traders have their football flags in the window, all picked at random. Are Sweetshakes feeling lucky with picking England out the bag?
- It’s all coming together for Garforth Arts Festival – Main Street event on 2nd July – Make sure you come down and support the good of Garforth, as you will see from the poster, there is lots going on. This year a fair few of us volunteers have got together to create something fun, and if it goes well, we could do bigger better year on year.

- Ninelands Primary School Summer Fair this evening from 6-8pm, let’s hope the rain disappears!
- I enjoyed a quick visit to Meridian Health Care today, Augustus Court and bought a few raffle tickets that go direct to Marie Curie. The staff were hoping to raise £100, enough to pay for a Marie Curie Nurse to spend the evening caring for a patient at home. – You can pay a visit any time at Augustus Care home, just pop in and pay a visit and see for yourself how fabulous this home is
- Did anyone see Christine Talbot from ITV News cutting the Ribbon at Martin House’ new shop today? I hope she popped into Cielo as per my tweet : )
- VOGUE BAR – I have been enquiring about its re-opening since their last post on facebook – After going through all the feedback we’ve received we have decided not to open this weekend due to maintenance work however, we think you’re going to like the adjustments – Please accept our apologies as we know a lot of you had planned on visiting us / asked to reserve the L suite this weekend . Also
- Pleased to announce we are now working closely with West Yorkshire Police and Leeds City Council Licensing. #SaferGarforth – I m still waiting to hear from them to see where they’re at
- I have also enquired, again about Joan’s old shop to see if yet a new lease has been signed – I may hear something by next week
- Chicken shop still to get it’s sign up – all work seems to have come to a halt at the minute and I noticed rumours were flying about on other social media pages; you know those ones where people think it’s ok to say whatever they like! There was a very unkind remark on one of them about this new venture arriving….. I’m sure they’ll be the first person there when the doors open! #illkeepyouposted
And lastly……..
I have sent an email to our local Councillors this week asking for their support on Miami, not necessarily Lidl as we know this is more or less in the bag! But the two retail units that come in their plans. I have mentioned before them before as they really concern me. We need the councillors support in order we don’t detract any more footfall from Main Street.
Lidl’s ideas are to put a cheap store in at least one of the retail units, which to me, would be the concern; they sell everything giving a reason for people not to bother with our high street! We ALL need to think of the impact it would have, even a novelty period of interest would do damage to Main Street. With the likes of The Lady Cares going by Christmas, even in this climate some of our traders are struggling – let’s hope we get the right support when their proposals are in
