Friday 29th July – #schoolsout

Well today has been the OPEN HOUSE day at The Station House, it has had such wonderful response and great excitement from the 100+ people that came for, ‘a nosey’  and who enjoyed the free cuppa with a purchase some wonderful Italian pastries…. very yummy.    Tonight we see some of our other lovely local businesses come to visit  – #connected businesses and working with each other is so important in also helping our local economy turn.

The Station House have lots of phases to business.  Phase 1 will be on Monday, Yorkshire Day when you will see; if you are lucky enough to be getting the train on Monday morning, Their breakfast service (hatch style)… there is an Italian word in there somewhere which says it better…  soon to be up on a sign!  I had a taste of their coffee too… a lovely blend and like me, if you need coffee for more than just taste, it will certainly wake you up on a morning.

Phase II will see the cafe opening until 11am
Phase III will see the cafe opening until 5.00pm
and then all the other phases……. well you’ll just have to watch and see

Not only has this been a labour of love for the whole of the Baranelli family, but they have done something wonderful with this fabulous building, that could have just sat and been left…. now we have, yet another fabulous eatery…. how lucky are we Garforth?

So if you didn’t manage to get there today – there’s plenty of opportunity to try it out…. very soon

Congratulations to Cielo this week, who,  after a month sourcing funds through crowd funding  in order they could open another fabulous social enterprise cafe in the heart of the business district of Leeds have now reached their target … as of now, 17.11pm  they have just reached  £20,535.  I know Nick and Linda are completely blown away, here’s what they have said

THANK YOU So much to everyone who’s pledged to make this happen! We are totally blown away by the support. 
We’ve hit our target so Cielo in York Place is going to open this Autumn! Wow.
There is still time to pledge today if you know anyone who’d love one of our unique rewards that are only available through this campaign. They’ve got till 8am tomorrow (Sat) to pledge. 
All money raised now will go towards giving York place more stability to hit the ground running and create a successful community hub in the middle of the business district & finance centre of Leeds, and of course ensure any hidden costs that always come up are covered quickly.

Last night I watched another one of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s programmes on War on Waste.  Since his last programme in which he asked us, the general public to sign up to his war on waste campaign, supermarkets have relaxed their requests on ‘Politically correct veg’  that’s what i’m calling it!  Some supermarkets have now spoken to British farmers and are now taking on stuff that would have been, in the past just chucked away, who cares if a carrot is wonky, it’s all edible.  

They should have been following the laws of our own high street greengrocers….  who cares, it all tastes the same… which proves  that asking us to help promote and petition,  actually pays off #peoplepower; when the important things are listened too.  Also since this programme, people have created, in their own towns, Waste not….. (town name)  we could so do this in Garforth, including  creating sessions and workshops to actually fixing things that are broken and not just chucking it away.  My husband is a dab hand at fixing things and we teach our children the value of something and how to try and mend it, you know, like in the olden days!  I know he would want to be part of this, by showing people how to fix a computer or any electronic piece of equipment that would normally be just chucked into the landfill.  However, we need a small volunteers group to get this off the ground and I would back it 100% and get it out there and help make it work….. if you’re with me, please send me an email to Christine@themaindeal.co.uk

Please, will people stop moaning about how many Charity shops we have on Main Street – we have 5 and out of 75 businesses this is a really small percentage…..  stop concentrating on the places you may not visit and on the ones you should…. by the way, our charity shops are rather marvellous, I’ve bough quite a few things from them and so has  some of our local businesses.  and next Week you will see our Garforth Community Choir  supporting St Gemma’s
