Last week’s Podcast was a tad long, I hope you manged to get through it…. fifteen minutes of talking non stop, is long….. Well, perhaps not for me!
A mad week with snow hitting our ground and a very loud Trump being heard all around the world! Nobody ever wants to hear a Trump, but they can make people laugh and cause embarrassment – Hold on tight USA, there’s a lot that can happen in 4 years! I have a feeling 2016, may have a line through it in history books going forward; if that makes sense!

The John Lewis advert came out this week; I always look forward to seeing it, it brings us that little bit closer to Christmas and it makes you sit, watch, and smile for a while #bustertheboxer and to be a little controversial, I also like Kevin the carrot – Aldi! Perhaps we should make one next year for Garforth? Now there’s a thought! #cogsturning
Some lovely comments this week on social media about Chris’ Fruit and Veg and his arrangements of flowers, he is the perfect place to go to for all sorts of things, but his flowers especially, he is so highly recommended for his arrangements, choice and price; but please be aware folks, flower prices have gone up to ridiculous prices for ALL our florists, therefore some places are having to go up in price a little, what traders were once paying; 75p per a lily, they’re now paying £1.10!
Besides Chris’ lovely flowers, we really do need to make more of an effort with his shop, we really do. As most of you will have read; if you’re a TMD blog follower, I worked with some of the shops and LCC to get white lines painted on the parking area outside and to get staff of shops to try and park elsewhere leaving the front free for customers only to hopefully encourage people to stop and shop more.
We are really lucky to still have these shops and Chris’ Fruit and Veg Shop selling a fair amount of what we need, I use Chris’ little shelf (no connection to his height) a lot as this selection of fruit and veg is stuff that needs using that day, it can pulped into soups and pasta sauces or given to small pets!… I use this a lot because, I love food and hate waste. I also spend, on average £35 a month in Chris’ shop, I’m a family of 4, imagine if we all just spent £20 in his shop, he could offere diferrent and mperhaps more products, he could invest in his shop more, and more importantly, he could stay open for many more years to come!
Give it a try, a local shop buy – Chris is open 7 days a week, closes at 1.30 on Sundays…. It’s about making a little effort so we can make big changes

It’s a great way to connect and meet other local businesses, It’s NOT a corporate evening out, it’s a sociable occasion where you can talk and see how if you can help each other….. and it does work – Our next one will be in Februry 2017.

I had a lovely meeting with the ladies of Augustus Court care home this week. As mentioned in last week’s podcast, they are looking at holding community activities in house with local people and their current residents, which there are now 30… there are spaces left, so if you haven’t been yet, go and have a look, Here is some information and keep a look out for some more of their activities, coming up in 2017! From special open days to monthly themed lunches and they’re really keen on working with local producers and businesses too.

Not long now before Garforth Christmas Lights Switch on with a whole host of things going on, starting with 12 Days of Christmas which you will see on shop windows. Most, if not all of our primary schools have been given a form in their book bag, but you can also collect these forms at

Our November production ‘A Fly in the Ointment’ begins next week. We are performing from November 16th to 19th at the Miners Welfare Hall on Main Street.It starts at 7.30pm on every night. Doors open at 6.45pm and there is a licensed bar.
Tickets are on sale from GADS members, Garforth Library and SPT Uniforms.

I hear there is a new new tenant for Ladycares, but we won’t know anything until after Christmas, and they’re not due to open (whoever they are) until March 2017, but I do hear they are gutting the whole place! We’ll just have to wait and see
I also hear, the old wooden hut at the garden centre will definitely be used for something they have in mind…. choo choo!
