Happy Mother’s Day!
This is a special one for me – my first as a Mum. They say being a Mum is the hardest but most rewarding job in the world. Seven months in, I’ve come to appreciate how true this is. Cliche but true.
The responsibility of looking after another human before yourself, the sleepless nights, endless laundry, and never really having a proper break – it’s tough. But watching my little boy see the world through new eyes, learning and taking everything in for the first time – it’s pretty amazing. Seeing the goofy smile of my little Yorkshireman and hearing his giggles make it worth the while, and then some.
It’s a tough job but the best job. So, to all you amazing mums out there, have a wonderful Mother’s Day.
Now I’ve got my wellies on, ready for my Mother’s Day surprise from my boys! Until next week…

Welcome RK Harris Fruiterers to Main Street, A lot if with opinions!
As I mentioned on Facebook this week Yes, we have a new Veg shop opening and I can see why people are questioning; ‘What, another veg shop, when we have two already?’ Everybody questions a duplication of business and of course, I’m concerned for our other offerings, but hopefully with approximately 20,000 people in Garforth alone and 76,000 on the periphery, there is room for harmony. It’s the way people question things is what I don’t understand.
Do we know what they’re selling? Do we know what prices they are going to be? Do we need to give new businesses a hard time when they arrive on our high street? NO
For all those with an opinion!
Did you help or speak to the landlord about what you would like to see or have any influence in helping what could take over it?
We did have Ladycares, a unique independent shop, but you didn’t use it enough, so….. it had to close!
The bigger picture is, the shop is now filled, and the people coming are independent and giving local people jobs !
It gives us choice and if it brings more people in to shop on the high street because there’s another price choice, then we shouldn’t really complain.
I shop at Chris’ Fruit & Veg and at The Greengrocer for everything fresh, all of the time and have done for years; and I’ll probably shop at RK Harris too. If it means I spend less time and money in a supermarket…. great!
Have you thought about getting in touch with RK Harris and asking them to bring in things that aren’t on offer anywhere else?
We currently have 2 empty shops, one has been empty for a long time, who’s up for volunteering to get this filled? MOGS?

Hearing a new owner will be taking over the unit that currently houses Sweetshakes, no news on what’s happening after the take over; only rumours
As you have will have seen this week, Absolutely Fabulous have been having a closing day sale, but don’t worry, all is not as it seems, they are selling off some fabulous products but they’re not going anywhere. You will soon seen their new brand and the launch of their new shop, so keep following and I will be posting all the information about it as soon as it comes in. Good News stories, we like them.
As Mentioned in a previous blog some weeks ago, I have been looking at ShopAppy coming to Garforth and have had a few lovely meetings with its founder Jackie Mulligan. I have now invited Jackie back to Garforth so she can come and do a presentation to you and our local traders, shop keepers, so come along to find out more. On Wednesday 12th April at 5.30pm at Pride and Produce, who will also have their counter open in order you can still buy refreshments.

According to planning, an application has been put in for a change of use, from Emsley’s Solicitors to a dental surgery. It looks like they the current dental practice above Reed Rains and they’re just moving along to give them more space and a lot more surgery #lotsofteeth
