Kate and the team have been running Freshly Made for a few years now and have a great reputation for the yummiest of breakfasts, sandwiches, pies and cakes.
But,they do more than you think at Freshly Made , it’s not just about breakfast
Each Monday during term time, Freshly Made provide the NET group based at Halliday Court with a home-cooked hot meal made up of a main course and a dessert. Halliday Court is one of 14 lunch clubs within the Garforth and surrounding areas, whose aim is to combat social isolation by providing older people with the opportunity to meet people, make new friends and join in activities.
The super cook who creates the Monday meals is called Keith. Keith has recently retired and was looking for a little role which utilised his culinary skills. So when Freshly Made were approached by Ann and Pat at Halliday Court they had just the person for the job. Keith enjoys the camaraderie of working in a team and the staff learn cooking tips from Keith and love the banter in the kitchen when he is around!
In addition to Monday meals, Freshly Made also provide regular buffets for working lunches to a number of local businesses.
Owner Kate, has a spent the last decade working for charities, supporting disadvantaged young people in to work and training. As a new employer, Kate was keen to offer work placements at Freshly Made.
They have since supported two young people, the first on a six month placement via the Government Talent Match programme, who had language and learning barriers. More recently they provided a work experience placement for a 16 year old with complex learning disabilities. Following the success of the first placement, Freshly Made have been chosen by Talent Match to support more young people in the coming few months.
Talent Match is targeting young people who are furthest from the jobs market, including those who are completely outside of the benefits, work and training system and facing severe barriers to gaining the skills they need to get into work.
So next time you pop in Monday to Sunday in the cafe, just think you buying from the cafe allows Kate and the team to do all these wonderful things in our community
