To be fair the local builders I am using have been really good and I would highly recommend. Dave Richardson of MD Building and Property Ltd and his team, Nigel the Joiner, John the plasterer and Craig, the helping hand have been really efficient. I needed a whole new staircase ripping out and a new one installed into our attic bedroom, as when the original one was put in, Circa, ‘Back to The Future’ era, they had used the original box room for the staircase! Anyhow, I have changed stairs, re-instated the box room and now have new TMD office; I’m really quite clever really you know; don’t let the blonde hair or typo’s fool you! The big issue now is, what colour shall we paint the office?
Once I have my new office up and running it will be nice for promo video’s, a better back drop and quieter.
Listening to the Garforth Community Choir, as I do on a Friday; I pick up the link to the rehearsal from the last week and it always makes writing the blog so much easier; sometimes faster if their singing a particular song! They are working with 2 choir masters at the minute, Cleve Freckleton as the god of all choirs and with a new leader, Thanda who is working very closely with the choir giving them new challenges and new songs, he’s making the choir sound amazing. What’s going on this weekend?

Looking for fun and friendly baby and toddler groups around Garforth?
Every Monday we enjoy going to our Baby Buds group at St Benedits Church Hall in Garforth. Its for babies under 12 months and led by Jan, a childcare expert who’s been running baby groups for over 27 years. She’s helped by Diane, also very experienced in childcare. They’re both great – really welcoming and friendly.
It’s a really relaxed environment, great for play and making new friends – we’ve met lots of new mums and babies there. There’s a sensory room and singing to keep your little one stimulated and entertained, and we got a ‘song sack’ at our first session to keep the little toys and props we sing about.
I knew it was a hit with my little man the first time we went – he didn’t take his eyes off Jan while she was singing in the middle of the group, laughing and smiling the whole time. Plus, there’s tea and cake and time to chat at the end of each session.

It has to be said, the internet has ruined some local businesses. With a click of a button, you can buy goods from anywhere in the world. It’s sad to see deserted shops, on once bustling high streets. You only have to look at places like Sheffield and the historic market town of Pontefract, to see these sad changes to the high street.
However, some retailers are reporting business getting better and there has been full circle from internet, back to high street.
So why is shopping local better?
1. Your spending will boost the local economy. Research shows that for every £1 you spend in a small business, 63p of that — stays in the local economy.
2. It’s ethical 💚 Shopping local generally means you are eating seasonal. Eating seasonal means you are general being better to the planet. It’s very hard to get things like blackberries in November, in the U.K.
Climate change is real and we all need to do our bit to slow it down. Importing these goods uses more energy and creates lots of waste. If you buy local, the food has had a short field — to — fork traveling time.
3. By investing in local business, you help build communities. Communities are important to people as they allow us to interact, share experiences, develop relationships and work towards common goals. Without communities, people would have to live in isolation.
4. Local food has more nutrition. Food imported is out of date before it hits your plate. Research has shown that fruit and veg from some supermarkets, is rotting en route. The plastic bags that the food comes in, stops air from getting to your food. However when that is removed, your food is out of date in 24 hours. Seriously — you might as well chew on cardboard.
So if you can change one thing this week, try buy one local produce a week. Whether that be a pint of milk or locally sourced carrots. At the end of the day — it’s good for you, your family and the planet.
