Friday 26th May   –  Our world is beautiful, it’s a pity it can be so ugly sometimes

A horrid topic that has impacted the whole of the UK this week, and more prevalent the north I feel, It feels as though it hits home more when it’s on the doorstep, it’s impacted everybody this week, if not directly but in our hearts and minds.    Manchester will take time to get through this; up north we have such a great sense of community and when you see people, strangers of every colour and every creed hugging each other, it shows what love there is in the world!
 
We will call these monsters all the things under the sun; believe me I have.   I’m thinking most people’s TV’s have been shouted as this week.  But that’s what they want, to divide us from our neighbours; for most it won’t work.

The one thing  tragedy does bring is people closer together and it makes us realise that really, we should all care more about people, our home, others and lives.  Life is too rushed, life is so busy;  sometimes we forget the most important thing; it’s usually looking us right in the face.  In order to stop myself getting upset ALL the time, I have to look at all the people that have helped and come together to assist others in need.  When we as humans rush out of fear, our emergency services run in.  When strangers help others, homeless guys just doing what he could until the paramedics arrived, people nearby turning into other people’s mothers and people driving further than they needed to help people in need, Café’s giving free food and drink to our emergency services, students were out on Tuesday with a sign giving people free hugs; just to do something good. There was a guy just hanging around Manchester all day to smile to people to try and help lift their spirits.

We do have so many decent people in the world; we have to look to this to have some hope for the world we’re bringing our children up in.  Hope, love and a steady recovery to all those people who have been injured.  It must be a very serial moment for some of the children this week, a concert turns into injury and heartache and then the Queen at the end of your bed seeing if you’re ok.

Where is your..

Most saw the awful graffiti on the Welfare Hall, Library and bus stop on Main Street this week, and our local Councillor, even though on holiday quickly had it removed.  There were lots of opinions about the people who did it, whether they were young, old, girls, lads, Garfonians or outsiders; plenty of people had lots to say, but the main thing it showed me was that people really do care about where we live.  Whoever did this isn’t clever, there was no message really; just sounded like someone was a bit annoyed about Garforth for whatever reason!  Use your brain!

​Trust – Hidden agenda??

Normally I let things go past and don’t ponder on any negatives, it’s a waste of my time; which I  have very little of, but on occasions I find it very hard to understand when people have an unnecessary opinion about how I run my business; especially when they know very little about it or have no understanding about me as a person.  I have been doing this job for nearly 3 years now and I have helped A LOT of people do lots of good things; proof is in the pudding of following, The Main Deal, the reviews and nominations for awards this year will add to this.   Be happy someone is trying to genuinely help the business in our home town.  There is no hidden agenda, and let’s be honest, I don’t need to prove myself to negative people, only the people I work with, and you as the community.  #baffled #dontgetit   and so I move on.

Garforth Community FEASTIVAL – Saturday 15th July

Garforth Feastival is underway and more things are being confirmed each week.  As well as a few stalls on Main Street, which include Dumouchel, The Gin Shack and Quirky ALes, there will be a Beekeepers, Stall, Pride and Produce, Cielo,  The Bottled Backing Company, and Wharfe Valley Oils – there is also some fabulous things going on in our library with a cake bake off  and working projects within other venues.  

As well as the additional entertainment you will see and hear in some of our fabulous café’s, in the evening there is, ‘LATER LIVE’ at Quirky’s.   An 18+ event  from 6.30pm on wards., ass well as great ales being served, The Gin Shack will also be there alongside, Wood Fire Fire Pizzas, Street Food and live music with Supersonnets and Bare Brass – Tickets are available to buy at Cielo, Quirky and The Library 

Tickets are £7.50 and all proceeds go back into GARFEAST2018  #supportthegoodofgarforth

Yes I know, people are fed up with British Gas and Virgin Media digging up the roads, but look at this way, at least they’re doing it all the same time!   Short term disruption for a long term gain 

#MIG – has had a hectic couple of days this week; as always with babes in arms, life can be difficult and just when you think you have got a pattern going, babies push you into another one!  Christine will be back in a few weeks with some more recommendations.  Don’t forget about her class she’s running at Premier Fitness every Thursday Morning  ( not next week with it being half term) as there is a an activity on at Leeds City Museum but back the following week, 8th June
