We need some good news in the world, everything is just so sad. With, Theresa May trying to cobble up some sort of Government to make it ‘strong and stable’!! There’s not a lot we can do about these changes now, it’s just frustrating when things happen and you didn’t vote for any of it!
London has had such an awful time – with another dreadful terrorist attack 12 days ago to the harrowing disaster on Wednesday morning; it’s the people that run into the danger and do anything they can to help are the people we need to make us realise how Great, Britain is….. More of these people shining is the good news out of what seems to be continuous distress. I find myself watching in disbelief that yet another week in our country has had another disaster.
I pray for all those families who have lost someone and I pray for all those firemen and emergency services who have to go through this block of flats to find answers.
I hope the book doesn’t just keep getting passed, as to who is to blame!

It brings me onto our Community, in any Community is shouldn’t take a disaster for people to rally round, and pull together, my motto has always been, ‘Don’t sit back and wait for things to happen; go out an happen to things.’ Look after what we love, know, enjoy, and see the good by helping.
On a much lighter note
Our family had a lovely holiday, it has been a long time since we have been abroad; how life changes when you have children! The #thomboys loved their new experience and are looking forward to their next venture; but If I listen to their requests for places to go, someone needs to give them a Saturday job; even if they are only 11 and 7! #pieinthesky
It was nice to go into Lee’s new shop, The Greengrocer and Flowers by Chloe and see their new store, a smaller unit but he has tried his best to give just as many options. It reminds me of Borough Market or a little Deli in Covent Garden. I wish him and the team all the luck in their new premises.
Sadly it brings us onto Costa! Seeing this week that signage on the window and in store work was being carried out, it’s disheartening for me that it’s going ahead. It all appears to be moving very quickly; considering their planning application only closed last Friday! Sorry, but it’s my passion to shout about independents and this will never change. If Costa has a massive impact on one of our independents because people are choosing it, I will be so sad to see a business suffer because people are suckered in by brand… Like it or not, Isn’t Costa just the Weatherspoon’s of coffee! #myopinion
However, I’m always going to try and look for the positives; one person said it would make them shop on Main Street more…. so, it’s taken a branded shop to make you use your high street! Let’s hope this is the positive that brings more people in, if this is how some are thinking!

The Garforth Feastival (15th July ) is one you need to put in your diaries; if you haven’t already! In the next week or so, I will be able to share the newly created website for the FEAsTival so you can see who will be there, what they’re all about and what is going on and what is being hosted in our cafe’s, shops and businesses, on Main Street and at Quirky’s, Later live. Tickets are selling very fast for Quirky’s , so make sure you get yours from, The Library, Quirky’s and Cielo. All funds go back into next year’s fEAsTival. Pride and Produce and Station House will also be open in the evening to continue the festivities
This year we are starting with baby steps to celebrate great independent food and drink, with a few little hidden surprises; look out for the very colourful map coming to a spot or two, near you.

As you will just about see, 3 cars mounted the other side of the pavement to get past! All the people going up and down Church Lane are fed up of it and something needs to be done. It wouldn’t cost much money to put up, no parking between 9am-4pm and this would assist heavy traffic coming to and from Main Street. Yes it might push those, say 10 cars elsewhere, but the problem they will cause elsewhere will be so minor in comparison to the incidents that they could cause on Church Lane. Here’s hoping something comes of my requests!
It’s not my job to have anything to do with highways, but it’s a problem that is stopping some, wanting to come and shop on Main Street, so I’m making it my job to try and do something.

In response to your email regarding any plans for Church Lane, I am afraid that at present there are no proposals for this stretch of road.
We have previously been looking at introducing a mixture of resident permit parking and double yellow lines as part of a Garforth wide traffic regulation order, to regulate the parking along Church Lane, however after fully consulting the residents and formally advertising the draft parking proposals, we received numerous objections. After receiving and considering the various objections, a decision was taken to abandon the proposals for Church Lane, and proceed with implementing the remainder of the area wide scheme.

It’s Infant Mental Health Awareness Week – sounds a bit strange thinking about mental health issues in babies, but all it means is looking after your baby’s emotional wellbeing. So, with that in mind, it was a perfect week to try Sling Swing for the first time. Swing Sling is a gentle movement and dance class for mums and dads or carers with their babies and toddlers in soft structured slings and baby carriers or wraps. Having your little one snuggled close to you is a good way to bond and have your baby feel safe and secure, and the class is suitable for babies as young as 6 weeks old.
Katherine instructs the class, which is new to Garforth and Tadcaster. We went along to the Wednesday afternoon class; I had just enough rhythm for my little man to fall asleep in the sling, but not enough to look good doing it I’m afraid! But that didn’t matter because everyone was really nice and we were all having a laugh while getting some exercise.
