Friday 24th November – Christmas starts this weekend

A tradition that has spanned many years but each year, since the new committee formed, they’re hoping to make it bigger and better each year. (I’m not part of this one)  This year they have a procession of all our local clubs and children’s classes walking up to the stage at approximately 5.30pm.  We will also have many stalls selling lovely Christmas items, gifts and Gin…. Yep The Gin Shack will be there selling fabulous gifts along with popular food vans making a return again this year, as well as some of our local foodies with their own stalls, Cielo and Pride and Produce, so it’s not just your frozen burger on a grill, oh no, we have much more on offer this year as well as our local eateries staying open later so you can pop in for hot drinks and something yummy to eat.  A few of the other retail shops will also be open and Ronnie the Rhino will be present and the FIREWORKS  are back……. woosh

So wrap up warm, come and enjoy this long standing Garforth tradition;  Let’s help put the lights on.
 
Stalls will open about 3.00pm until 8.00pm; for all those of you who are able to get home a little earlier.  Lights get switched on at  7.00pm 
 
And don’t forget Saturday, the market will be back from 9.00am – 3.00pm

Please note Main Street closes from La Bella Vita up to the top of Main Street at 3.30pm back open at 8.30pm

It’s Garforth Lights! So officially I am allowed to be Christmassy, at last. I’ve always loved the lights switch on (except for that teenage time I was cautioned for using silly string 😂- proper rebel). And for those of us who’ve been around a while, our heart longs for Welifant, or free pie and peas from the old butchers! It’s great tho isn’t it?  It’s busy, it’s a reason to bundle up and down the Street together and take part. We get to huff a bit as we try and pass by TOFS to grab a glimpse of the stage. We have some really talented school groups, dance troupes, musicians and singers! My kids love spotting friends on the stage. If you’re performing, high 5!
 
Cielo will be open as usual with our Christmas drinks; and out in the cold (me!) to join in the community market with bags of coffee for Christmas. 
 
Don’t forget the market is there on Saturday too, from 10am-3pm there’s a great range of local offerings and the perfect opportunity to get some gifts nailed. 
 
Sunday afternoon, we have the Retro Gaming guys back in upstairs for throwback opportunities to your old favourite console games.
 
So if we can tempt you this weekend to a Salted Caramel Latte, Merry Mint Mocha, Black Forest hot chocolate, hot chocolate Orange or Gingerbread latte, we’d love to say, Hi!
 
Do also have a look at all the fabulous Christmas windows, and if you pass by Scream’s window, they’re collecting new toys and gifts towards Radio Aire’s ‘cash for kids’ and I’d encourage you to get involved if you can.

Out and About
I’ve been  out and about a few times this week, eating of course.  My goal this year was to lose 2 stone; only 3 stone to go!  When we have such fabulous food offerings in our town, it’s so hard  look at the waist line and just say no…  thank god for Zumba and Spinning.

Caroline Atha of CASoD and I have been to The Station House Café this morning,  for a relaxing and  Christmassy bite to eat;  a herby sausage ciabatta called my name, see I’m rubbish!   It’s not often Caroline and I  get chance to sit and chat, as we’re both always so busy, but sometimes, it’s good to make time, catch up and have a good old chin wag especially in one of the best places we have on the doorstep.  On leaving the Station House, we walked across the bridge towards the car which was parked in Tesco’s, and I felt this thing, wafting at my side!  As I had got up from the  chair in the cafe, I had somehow managed to take the Christmas covering with me…  the fact it took a while for me to notice, this big red cloth dragging behind me is a little worrying!  I returned to Jo at Cafe and apologised, but Jo knowing me so well, just laughed… well I am a scouser, we do tend to take things without realising.

More PLANNING

More houses proposed for the land of the former Garforth Clinic – 9 in total I think – We’re becoming a lego town, add on here, add on there. There is no long term thought of LCC letting  every Developer build and build and build.  The problem Is, we’re a commuter town with great schools and in the words of Robert DeNiro in Taxi, ‘You wanna piece of me’ it seems everyone does.  Come on LCC think long term, the impact on our town is getting hideous, people are already strangling each other on Garforth Gossip over traffic, parking, dentists and schools…. No Room at the Inn
