Today is national Hedgehog day, try and look after them in your garden. You can chuck a few of your leftover bits of food out for them in your back garden, better than chucking them in your black bin. From following Leeds Recycling on social media, I read this week, that Leeds is one of the top places in the country that throw away most food items! Quite sad to read. Perhaps we need to buy just what we need and not offers – that’s why shopping in our local shops is always better, buy just what you need. For example, 250g Mince rather than a big pack of 500g mince, then you can buy loose veg and fruit, like 2 carrots, 3 potatoes and a tomato. It works in the opposite way, the less you buy, the more often you will use it. I also find using the website www.lovefoodhatewaste.com is very helpful. Willow Park Farm is open 7 days a week, we all have at least 1 day off to go shopping.
Give it a try, a local shop buy, and share some with the hedgehogs too

I hear Mega Play has new proprietors and they seem very nice people, so say hello to Carl and Clair when you next visit – I also hear on the Grapevine, there will also be a name change to, Kids Zone. #keepyoureyespeeled
You may have seen changes in Pride and Produce of late, with a smaller menu, or less things being offered. News is to come this month, and all I can say is, don’t worry, it’s all really good news.
I hear on the grapevine that a request has been put into the local Council to make one of the car park’s off Main Street, a short stay car park, in order we can offer more spaces for you the customer wanting to use Main Street and not necessarily by commuters. I do know the request for it to remain FREE is also up there on the priority list
A request has also been put in to have better lighting on Barley Hill Road car park by the Tennis Courts, therefore giving a safe and better option for our Main Street shop owners and workers to perhaps park further away, again alleviating spaces for customers! Fingers crossed something good does come out of these requests, I
Unfortunately, I have also heard that the Landlords, Henry Lax, ‘MAY BE’ implementing Car parking charges on the rear car park; the only place you can get a car parking space in the day!! More money for him if he succeeds. Is he not getting enough money already? Greedy Landlords with no thought about our towns priorities and impact. It makes me so cross. It’s already got a time limit of one and half hours and it works!
Nice to see the war memorial has finally found it’s place this week; it’s been a long time coming, it’s very lovely to see so many hero’s written on, but equally so sad to see and read how many local men were involved, when Garforth would have been so small back then. At least it now gives a places for families and somewhere local to pay tribute and respect on Memorial Day to our all local men that should never be forgotten.

Planning
Nothing much to report this week, nothing new. But what I do always see in planning is the amount of home owners who are wanting to extend their current home, there are new applications every week – which make one thing stand out … People obviously love living in Garforth.
