On a happier note! Welcome back Garforth, where did the time go? I think that has been the quickest summer break, ever! Kids are back at school and we’ll soon start hearing their repetitive tones of Harvest festival songs, it is fun to see the obligatory September pictures of parents showing off their cute, and funny pictures of their loved one’s in their new school uniform; maybe it’s just me that laughs #badparent
So what have you all been up to? If you were lucky enough to go on holiday, I hope you had the best of times, I hope you were able to switch off and spend much needed time with friends and family, or if it was just a break doing things together at home, it’s about who you’re with and not necessarily where you go.
We had fun glamping in a Yurt for 3 nights in, The Cotswolds followed by a lodge in Somerset for 7 nights, the UK is quite lovely when you find good places. It was our first time glamping trip and I would highly recommend it, I’m getting a bit too old to lie on a blow up bed and have a cold face in the morning, so it’s glamping from now on in; it has to be said though, I didn’t really miss the sawdust loo when we left, but I did missed the night skies. Being in the middle of a forest, with clear skies and no city interference, night skies are magnificent. The #Thomboys were in their element breaking wood for the fire to cook our beef and bean chilli; Blazing Saddles style!
Talented Garforth
We certainly do have some very talented people in Garforth, amongst them, are a fair few local artists, some I have worked with and some I have bought Art from. I am currently having a picture commissioned by Bren Nevison which will go up in my front room. Bren is very good and his Artwork has a twist of humour which I really like, check out his page and I will post his completed piece, once I have it up in my living room. https://www.facebook.com/brennevisonart/
Talking of Artwork, I am currently having some large banners created, to go up and around Garforth, just for those who don’t know who we are and, for a reminder for those who may have forgotten to keep following – Look out for them and smile.
It’s all go
We have seen a fair few changes over the summer breal, The Fly Line advertised for jobs, and they now have their team in training, I hope a lot of people are local people. They have also announced their opening for the 1st October. I see in planning an application for an Orthodontist to move into Stephen Pressleys premises is in, initially people seemed excited as it’s seems to be a need for many, however I’m hearing on the grapevine it may NOT be NHS, so as I see it, a waste of time on Main Street, put it somewhere else please. But as I know landlords can be fairly money driven over better placed businesses such as much needed retail or options I have passed on for other independent companies to go in (which there are and people waiting) they feel a fourth dentist practise would be better! #notahappybunny
The Car Park at the top of Main Street is still going ahead, there are some things slowing the process, but it is all happening, and when it does, we’ll hopefully see an ease in congestion on Main Street. I also see the tiny houses on Ninelands Lane are shooting up, I’m glad to see solar panels being embedded into the tiled roofs, I hope they will all be the same throughout.
Onwards and Upwards
I had a great catchup with Matt from www.ls25webdesign.co.uk yesterday, we have worked together for as long as The Main Deal was an idea. We have some plans coming up,. One which see will see a page dedicated to local recruitment. I want to help get local people get into local jobs. There are so many benefits of doing so, I’ve had a few success this year with sharing all I have seen through large recruitment agencies, so we are going to look at making this more of working page to help and let you see what’s about. The Main Deal is such a great platform for many things and I want to be able to connect better by offering more of what can help. So keep your eye out over the next couple of months.
You may remember the information I put up a few blogs back about getting involved in a repair cafe? I have a meeting with a lady who knows more about we can implement this and get it off the ground, however, I still need volunteers of people who would like or help and get involved in helping this become a reality, so please do contact me on email christine@themaindeal.co.uk or pass onto someone you think will benefit from coming along and giving their skills and knowledge to others.
What’s On?
- Saturday 8th September – 9.30-11.30am – Nic Baker from Stampin up will be at South Milford WI Hall for Saturday Paper Craft Classes
- In this class you will be able to learn new skills or develop upon the ones you already have to produce handmade cards, gifts and home decor. Each fortnight I will prepare and deliver a class using Coordinating Stampin’ Up! Products. You will be able to learn new stamping techniques, how to make 3D items such as gift boxes and bags along with beautiful home decor items. You will always walk away with three handmade items made by your own fair hands. All materials, support and guidance you require will be provided to make your three projects. The cost of this class is £12 and includes light refreshments. - Saturday 8th September from 7pm Quirky Ale- Luke Flear is back by popular demand and will be joined by The Gin shack and Freshly Made for food offerings,did I hear someone shout Steak Canadian on offer?
- Saturday 8th September – Sticks and Stones, are great local young band will be playing for St Gemma’s Hospice in Crossgates at Barnbow Social Club from 8.15pm
- Sunday 9th September – Messy Play at St Mary’s Church Hall in Kippax from 1.30pm
- Sunday 9th September – National Run Out at Kippax Band Social Club – Garforth Brass Band will be playing from 7.30pm
- Monday 10th September – If you can’t make South Milford tomorrow, then check in at Paper Craft Class on the Platform from 9.30am-11.30am with Nic Baker from Independent Stampin up – In this class we will use Stampin’ Up! stamps, ink, card, papers and tools to make three handmade items. You will get to learn new techniques and card designs. We will make a range of items in these classes, generally two cards and one 3D item which may be some form of gift packaging or home decor. All materials are provided to make your projects along with as much support and guidance as you require. This class is suitable for people of all abilities, whether you are new to crafting or a seasoned crafter. The cost is £12 which includes a drink from the cafe.
