Monday started of nicely with a breakfast meeting at Garforth Academy discussing Year 13 pupils (that’s 6th former’s to you and me) and their career paths, should they choose Employment, an Apprenticeship or University.
The idea was to talk to local businesses to discuss if we could help in anyway. There are many ways The Academy would like businesses to get involved, from Classroom speakers, Industry Days, Local Area Board Members, Mock Applications. CV Surgeries, Deliver Problem Solving challenges and plenty more that businesses could get involved in, and not having to give a massive amount of time up. I have chosen to look at possible mentoring once a week for an hour and to see if I can help with work experience, I bet I could certainly learn a lot too in the social media world from a younger person’s perspective. So I’ll let you know what happens and when. Giving something to our future generations, if only confidence, can only be a good thing
Tuesday I didn’t feel too well, which took my office to my bed and then to the sofa for a few days; I don’t do ill, I’m not very good at it. I think of all the things I could be doing or things I need to do, and when you’re self-employed you can’t exactly call in sick. By Thursday evening I was feeling a little bit better, and made my way to Garforth Garden Centre’s, Christmas Extravaganza. We have been, as a family for the past few years and it’s now become a bit of a tradition; I also had pain killers on my side. With a mince pie and a cup of mulled wine in my hand, we wondered on up and had a mooch at their Christmas shop,. It’s such a lovely atmosphere. My favourite bit was watching a little old lady dancing with her trolley to the hired singing man, who had a chintzy sparkle in his teeth as he sang Christmas tunes down the microphone. Love a bit of Cheesiness (not sure this is a word.)
