Well done to The Lions for putting on yet another spectacular display and well done to the volunteer who kindly moved the ‘div’ on, from letting off fireworks in the skate park, as they were soon moved on, we and many other families could enjoy the fantastic display. I was laughing when the ‘not seen those yellow fireworks before’ were let off and seemed to have had a mind of their own almost 3D, a fair few people people were moving, about as they seemed unsure where the fireworks would end up! Sad to hear though, the Lions didn’t break even on the amount of donations. I am truly surprised as there were so many people there this year! Dig deep as Santa comes round folks, we need to support these great things that happen.
Meet up….
I had a lovely catch up meeting at Cielo with Sue and Brian from Garforth Plan yesterday. I bet there are a lot of people out there who don’t even know we have a wonderful team of volunteers who look into all the plans in Garforth and try to steer things in the right direction, in order we give Garforth a better outcome and future.
They’re making plans for the next 10 years with changes and impacts we’re expecting this will be helpful. They always notify people in what they do, about new plans coming along, they are forever talking to people and carrying out research and creating reports and include people in consultations where needs be. I will be helping you stay informed as they pass details to me about things they are doing and if they need input from business or community. And yes, like many of us, Parking is on the top of their agenda.
A few months ago the team had a post graduate student who had been studying in London and Canada, he was here helping them out and getting some experience of small towns and planning, and he said he thought Garforth had a wonderful high street! It’s always nice to hear the opinion of others who do not know anything about Garforth as I find a lot of times, people who live here only see the negatives.
I see we have a Sue Ryder Charity shop coming along near Lidl, great I say, I’m embracing this one as I do love a good charity shop, I hope it brings some elements of vintage ware too.

This Sunday, the 11th of November 2018 at 11am it will be 100 years since the guns of the Great War fell silent.
To mark this event Garforth will be remembering and honouring those lost in conflict as always.
Of course, this year Garforth saw the new outdoor War Memorial being delivered in the municipal part of Garforth Cemetery. It seemed timely therefore to incorporate this into the usual service that takes place in church.
Below outlines the timings for this special service of remembrance.
At 9.30 there will be the Holy Communion service.
At 10.30 a procession will take place from church to the new memorial. People are very welcome to join us from this part of the day.
10.45 The act of remembrance will take place.
Please note this replaces the usual 3pm Remembrance service this year. Future years to be decided.
For those unable to make the walk to the memorial the original roll of honour will be read out in church from 10.45 as well where the act of remembrance will also be observed.
Churches Together deserve our huge thanks for being so accommodating as does our tremendous new vicar at St Mary’s, the Reverend Jane Brown.
Our uniformed organisations, Garforth & District Lions and everyone else will be very, very welcome.
Please use the top car park if you can’t attend by foot as there will be no car access to the municipal cemetery during the service.
