It’s been a week of juggling again with Mother still in hospital and our car needing a recall. As the car recall was going to take 4+ hours, I decided to pop across town, visit poor Mum and have lunch thereafter and do some work . I also had a bit of a mooch in some of the shops, not my favourite past time, I much prefer to go into town to eat and drink.
What I find is, chain stores really need to up their game on customer service, experience and environment. We are seeing a worrying decline in our cities high streets, especially with the big department stores, shops need customers who want to return. John Lewis seem to be going in the right way, but other larger stores need to jump on this fast train of change and quickly.
I stopped in a well known shop to buy Thomboy a shirt, I was stood waiting in a queue for nearly 15 minutes. I was just about to put my items down and walk out, when a Customer Service Assistant begrudgingly came behind another till to help out her colleague, who was up to her eyes in bags, hangers and other peoples clothes. It seemed a hardship for this lady to scan my items, and by the way, there was no apology for my wait. After she huffed and puffed all my items into my bag – I just said, in a quiet, polite voice, ‘good customer service sees returning customers, shop stays open, your job stays safe’ I smiled and walked away telling her to have a beautiful day. Not sure how well it went down and I expect, there were words in blue air, but please, no matter how much you may dislike customers, if you’re in a customer service role, be good at it, it goes a long way to making people like me want to return.

- Saturday – 1.00-2.30pm Luke Flear will be busking in Main Street to help launch his ticket sales for the Charity Gig, he is doing for Martin House on 29th June – tickets only £5, go listen and buy a few tickets for this amazing talented young man
- Saturday 23rd 2.00pm – 3.15pm at Crossgates Methodist Church – Family Party Time with Funky Jives –Have the chance to wave pom poms and scarves, shake maracas and handbells, twirl ribbons and play with hoops. Other activities include parachute fun, bubbles and every child will receive a sticker. Children/babies will also get plenty of opportunity to get MESSY as Mess Around West Yorkshire is co-hosting and bringing along a fabulous variety of messy fun activities. Water, towels and wipes are available but you may want to bring your own and make sure you pack a spare pair of clothes for your little one (and you).
Light refreshments will be provided. - Tuesday 26th – 9.30am-11.30am – Carta E Carfe with Nic Baker our local Independent Stamping’Up Demonstrator – Please join me for one of my sessions at The Station House. Drop in and make a handmade Carta (card) and have a hot bere (drink) either as you craft or before / after – it’s your choice! This is a leisurely and social session where you can drop in anytime between 9.30 and 11 am to make your card/s. All materials to complete your card/s along with any guidance / support will be provided. Hot drinks can be ordered from the cafe. I hope you all have a good week, the last one before the next school break. I like this one, two weeks is much better than one. It gives our children time to relax have some, fun and spend quality time with family…. and it allows me time off from making packed lunches….yippee
