I love it when Facebook makes changes; says no-one ever!    They’ve done their usual thing, where they change one thing and then another thing goes wrong, or just simply disappears!  For some reason being able to schedule posts has gone missing as, has the ability to schedule multiple dates for events!  Let’s hope they do something to bring these features back. grrrrrr

Well, what a busy week it’s been, both business and social, only 1 week to go and it’s half term.  It’s been a very long 8 week term… i’m as tired as the Thomboys.  I always wonder why I’m not a size 8, I do so much running around; business, pleasure, family and life….!

I’ve heard some great news from one of our local artists this week, a fabulous commission that we will, all be able to see.  He can’t say anything else until it’s done, dusted and signed off – I will be very excited to see it, and tell you all about it!

So nice to see the signs for Jigger & Jar, the cocktail bar  now up.  They have been busy installing lots of great things inside and looking to open soon – as soon as I hear when, I will let you know.  Give them a follow on Insta and Facebook

We welcome The Flower House Garforth this week as one of our new members, check out all they do  https://www.flowerhousegarforth.co.uk/default.aspx

We also welcome back, David Woodhead from DMC Tiling & Plastering, David went to work on a contract doing wet rooms, but is now back working fully for himself, so it was really nice he asked to come back as a member,

There has been lots of new enquiries coming in this week, I suspect businesses are excited about the new App that’s  coming!

Predator Games

Picture

I met with the lovely new owners of Predator Games this week, you may have just seen them just pop up at the top of Main Street!  They’ve just been with us for just over a week, previously resided over in the shopping centre in Crossgates but decided they really liked Garforth and wanted to be part of our town.  They have been running a games shop for just under a year, it is a family run business and managed by Roy – so go in and say, hello.  They sell the latest games and consoles and  retro games starting from 50p,  they have a mini Retro arcade machine, they sell and buy Pre-owned hardware and do trade in’s for cash or store credit.  As you can see, they sell merchandise too and you can Pre order for Christmas, they would love your feedback and are open to suggestions; they even have a drinks fridge, do call in, have a look round and have a good chat. It’s nice to have something different on Main Street. Give them a follow

Pease, not all plastic

Picture

I had a great conversation with Matthew From Pease this week and how they have plans to concentrate on being even more plastic friendly, by giving people choices and options. This week, they have added to the mix, an option of cement, this bag is made of paper.  They still do all other options, but would like to give tradesman better choices.  Do you know they sell a lot of their small parts lose…? Not their own small parts, obviously…! Other DIY stores sell everything in little plastic bags, but Pease do many smaller items you can just pick up.  Pease also send all their polythene and plastics to be recycled in Sherburn to a company called Leopard Recycling – so they’re trying to do their bit,  They have plans to introduce other products in the future that have no single use plastic, such as their very own, Pease Tote bags – It’s nice to see local companies making small changes, which is a big start.   Matthew says “If your wanting a premium cement and also want to do your bit for the environment, we now stock the all new hybrid multicem cement in a paper bag. Unlike the old paper bag this is wax coated so is slightly showerproof and 50% tougher than the old paper bag. Did I also mention its CHEAPER”

Planning

A fair bit of movement going on in the building behind, Tudor Properties, but nothing in planning!  I had heard rumours it was going to be used for storage, but there does seem to be a lot of stuff coming out!

A large Dental and Orthodontist practice, Portman Healthcare Ltd have put in quite a substantial planning application to take over a large chunk of the building, where The Original Factory Shop currently resides!   This will be interesting to see what happens here, does this mean the end for TOFS? Check out the plans https://publicaccess.leeds.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=PYH7DVJBGR700&activeTab=summary

 Friday Thoughts
If we had an empty high street, closed down and boarded shops, not much going on, you would be able to drive straight up to the top of Main Street with ease, no waiting or pulling in to let cars pass or having to be  patient – which would you prefer?

Until next week …
