I hope you have all had a good week?
I’ve had my first workday out, out today, a visit to The Flowerhouse to help sort out their Facebook page………….. at a distance. I was quite apprehensive going, as it felt like doing something old, but new, but ok, but not! So many questions going through my head. But all went swimmingly or should that be flowery? Sarah was on it, spraying before I touched anything and afterwards, the whole florist office was sprayed within an inch of its life, the realisation really set in, on my visit today; our businesses are going to have to do so much when they return, to keep themselves and everyone safe is going to be so time-consuming and expensive to keep on top of it all. I really do feel for all small businesses going forward, but I know they will all do a brilliant job, they want and need to be open. Next week we will see the re-opening of a few more for our non-essential retailers. I think these guys are essential to many of us, it will certainly bring back a little bit of normality when we can purchase things we haven’t for a while. I will, of course, keep you posted in the run-up to local businesses opening and shout about it loudly on our social media which will pop up on our Garforth Live Board and be updated on our App with a *. PLEASE NOTE – social distancing really needs to be adhered to when we open these doors, as we’re already starting to see a rise in the R in a few regions already, we really do need to be on it and stay alert.
Awful News this week
The American, George Floyd killed in a racist and malice attack by what should have been a man of good! I don’t understand racism, I just simply don’t get it, how does someone’s skin colour determine them as a human being? My husband and I have worked with many people, different skin colours, religious beliefs and spoken languages from all over the world. Maybe this is why I don’t understand racism, maybe more people need to mix with lots of different cultures to have a greater understanding of others, we’re all just human trying to get on in the world. To me, educate your own children first, they are not born racist. All young and old need to be made aware of what’s truly going on in the world that we live in, however, I’m not a big fan of protests to do so, not just this one, but any, I feel it’s just people marching shouting how unhappy they are about something that isn’t right or something they don’t like and shouting for someone else to sort the problem out, but is it all worth it for awareness? Out of the many protests in the world over the years, we generally see a lot more media coverage about the protests that have got out of hand and the peaceful ones trying to make awareness, get very little exposure. Therefore, I don’t know what benefit they have, does it sort truly sort the issue out, does it make people feel better they have voiced their concern or opinion? Also, at this time, we’re still in a pandemic and being together is still so dangerous. There have been many other avenues publicised this week, how people can show their feelings or support, there have been lots of forums or Just Giving pages set up. As a nation, no matter how grand or famous you are, this Tuesday we saw social media come together and share Black Lives Matter, this I feel was of greater impact.
Have you done something new or different in Lockdown?
My husband is quite good with his hands… don’t take this anywhere other than, he’s great at making things! Quite some time ago, he bought a joystick with a plan to make something, but it’s just sat getting dusty. But over lockdown, and when he’s had time in between work, he’s made this! Now as a woman, I want to know where he’s going to put it; mind still on the topic, please… But I have to say, I’m quite impressed with his little arcade project, the Thomboys love the retro games and I’m quite a keen fan of Streetfighter! My next-door neighbour also has been making, she made me this lovely rainbow candle, and my other lovely, Feastival Friend, Phil, made me this huge loaf, he’s become quite the baker and you can now follow him on @Philb_bakes. Still doing great things, even when they’re closed
If you’ve not been watching… why not? Linda and Nick, Vicki and Anthony have been going live on Facebook at 11 am, Monday- Saturday; CLO at Home, you’re not on your own. Over the last few weeks, they have been showing us and connecting with, the farmers out in Uganda who they work with. Recently the Farmers have had really bad floods, which as you will imagine can cause all kinds of problems, CLO set up a Fundraising page to create 70 Family Food Parcels for 76 Children.
