I hope your week has been good? Like me, have you been working, homeschooling, washing, ironing, feeding the monkeys at the zoo, 3 meals a day, including snacks which equates to another meal? Oh and a few screams here and there, especially when Boris announced the likelihood for most of our children will definitely not be going back to full-time education until at least, and he said ‘at least’ September. This was my take this week, how have you been coping?

Let there be bubbles
From school bubbles to Bojo’s announcement bubble, this week – From this weekend, one person from another household can now create a bubble from another household, seeing people in your house and hugging… wow, now that’s going to be a lot of comfort for a lot of people, both physically and mentally. I can’t yet see my Mum in any bubble as she is in the Shielding category, or as I like to call it, ‘no-stay-there-you-can’t-move-just-yet’ category. If things keep improving, we may be able to see her outside of the front door at the end of June, fingers crossed for all those shielding as a lot of them are elderly and alone.! My Mum is off to the doctors next week, she’s really excited as she can drive there…. 14 weeks in lockdown and she can drive, she’s never felt so happy. I suspect she may drive the long way round, there and back!
In my job, I follow many pages, paths, platforms, businesses, people, and social circles to keep you posted on what I know, and what I feel can help or be relevant to you living in and around, Garforth. One page I follow is called, YappApp, some of you may have heard or even use it yourself. This App can be quite helpful, if there is an incident such as an RTA nearby, I can share the relevant information in order you can divert yourselves away from the incident, and you can stay safe and not be stuck in traffic. In order to find this information out asap, I have to follow and get notified whenever there is an incident on the App, and what I have been seeing during lockdown is so much car crime, sadly, more than ever. Major road collisions, the car’s causing damage and injury this week, or death by dangerous driving. Are people driving like complete idiots because the roads are quieter? You would think there would be fewer traffic collisions with less traffic, but I’m finding the complete opposite. I’ve also watched the down and right stupid on there too, like Burglars falling through roofs they shouldn’t have been on, or people kicking off on each other and falling over… what makes these people think differently to me? By the age of at least,11 you know what is right and what is wrong, so why do people do the things they do, it must be a terribly miserable life, living on the edge, all of the time? Maybe more people out and about stop, see and report more incidences so they don’t happen! It’s a strange world we’re living in at the minute and things you think would be a definite change are the complete opposite!
Business as usual from next Monday? Well, they will be open but it will far from be, business as usual, I think we will either see an influx of people so desperate to get out, they will be happy to stand and wait in very long queues. Or, we will see shops slowly getting customers through the door, day by day as people feel more confident do go out. I for one will not be changing anything I’m doing until June is out. I want to see what the impact of other peoples behaviour has had over the next few weeks, if we don’t have a second peak, I will be more confident to go out in July. Fingers crossed peoples actions over the past few weeks and the weeks ahead, don’t change the big R….For our local economy, here’s hoping – Big fingers crossed.
Also, remember public transport changes next week and all facemasks must be worn to travel. Today, Uber Taxis have made a statement, they are introducing a ‘no mask, no ride’ policy and I suspect other taxi companies will follow suit before long- if you are wanting to purchase a mask, please check out our two local businesses supplying – Lasercharge and Sewn sweet Sewn – you will find details on last weeks blog and they’re both on our Local business page and on Facebook too.
