The weather was so good, and then it has let us down this week! I feel days are easier when the sun comes out to play. As English people, we’re never happy with the weather, are we? When it’s too cold we wish for a holiday abroad, when it’s too warm we complain about not sleeping at night and how we can’t decide what to eat, because it’s too hot, I personally have never had this problem… never! But don’t worry, the sun is due back through the clouds on Sunday, not too hot; manageable flip flop weather.
A night in…again!
I really enjoyed last night’s CLO at home ‘non-pub’ quiz, answering general knowledge questions and drinking, it’s become a familiar thing to many I’m sure! However, I’m not sure, whenever I am comfortable enough to return to a bar will I be happy with their measurements, my home ones are far greater! The quiz was brought to us by Vicki and Antony Dunn along with their, sidekick, panel buddies, Nick and Linda, it was a fun night in, and I won.. 19 points…. please don’t think I’m clever, it was out of 35! CLO is NOT due to re-open tomorrow, so just watch this space when they feel the time is right. I feel, Zoom has brought so many people together, whether it’s been a class online, art, quiz, schooling, family or friends, I think one thing I will remember most about this time, is definitely Zoom.
It’s been a very stressful few weeks in work (home), not being able to manage everything, all together. I think I have lost my temper more times over the past month than I ever have before. I think it’s lack of patience, and probably having the same routine, over and over again; I’m not great with routine or things that are repetitive, I’d would never have OCD, luckily! The reality of knowing the Thomboys, all 3 of them, are here for a fair few months yet, has probably just dawned on me. When you think and know things won’t last forever, but you don’t know when that ‘thing’ will be over, I think it’s truly just sunk in. We still have a long way to go and I’m sure many of you can relate. I’ve also come to the conclusion that Maths is still not my strong point, I’m good at art and crafts and I’m no further, on understanding literature; my blog speaks loudly!
I’ve read a fair few comments – Social media warriors
I’m not one for jumping on a thread of negative comments unless I have a solution to add. I don’t see the point in a comment being put up to await the onslaught of peoples opinions that could potentially hurt someone’s feeling or a businesses reputation. I have read a fair few times of late, how people are fed up with the social distancing rules been thrown out of the window, or on a shelf, in many of our smaller supermarkets, such as Tesco and the Co-op and not just in Garforth, My solution would be, rather than ranting on social media about how people don’t care about it, talk to the staff or manager at the supermarket and ask them to take charge of it. Initially, we did see people following guidelines, arrows, lines and paths through the shops and this shouldn’t change. However, some people may have decided they don’t have time to be inconvenienced any more and therefore will just shop how they like. Please take this up with the store or the business. They can make changes where shouting on social media can’t.
Go out, but not far
If you have been following Ian’s mobile Farm in Aberford, (Christmas lights, Goats in Jumpers). They, like many businesses during the lockdown, lost their business overnight. Ian and his family look after so many beautiful animals, and they have really struggled to keep it all going during this time. They are not classed as a Zoo but still have similar problems that Zoo’s do. Late March, they launched a, ‘Go Fund Me’ page to raise £25k to assist with feeding and looking after the animals. I know this week, they had their first school visit in months, and I hope this will be the start of many more. They have also released information this week for their Private Farm Tours, Nanny Goat Farm. I have booked on for Sunday 12th. They are doing 1.5 hr tours on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with a suggested minimum donation of £35 for a family of 5. Good luck to all the businesses re-opening this week, some are opening on Saturday, some later in the week. I know a lot of people can not wait to get out of the house for a glass of something or get their hair done, but there are still many, approximately 60% of people who are still a little apprehensive about going out where there will be lots of people. Our local independent bars, barbers and hair salons have really pulled out all the stops to make it safe for you to go. However, our high street really does need you, so please, when you feel ready, go out and support those businesses, not in your droves, at a distance!
