Hello to you all. Wow, it’s been a while since I put thoughts to a keyboard! Like most lives in 2020, they’ve either been put on hold, or people have been running around like something out of an eighteenth century freak circus… that will be me then!
It was good to see kids go back to school this week, finally, how long have we all been waiting for this to happen? I could hear faint cheers in the air, like a chorus of beautiful bird song as parents walked home to a quiet house, waiting to make a cup of hot tea, and not being called or badgered every 5 minutes for a snack; I mean, do they not know where the kitchen is? I do have to ask, FOR HOW LONG, will they be back, will it take 1, 2 or 3 people to come down with the dreaded virus before our kids are self isolating for two weeks? For all those parents who shed a little tear as their children took themselves into big class, I know I for one, was more grateful they’re back with people who are educators, not us parents who are not trained teachers who keep getting this school work wrong. But I do know, I will be the parent who will cry, a really ugly cry should the schools go back into lockdown, and trust me, you’ll hear it, and it won’t be like any bird song you will have ever heard!
Now a high percentage of people are working from home, many have saved on travel and possible lunch expenses, the advantage of these small savings, means you can be, and spend more locally now you are literally working on your doorstep, or dining table, or bedroom, or garage!
BE KIND
So, I can not stress to you how much your support is needed right now for our shops on the high street, businesses at home, online teaching classes, activities that can be on, or the businesses that are still waiting to come back. We need big support for all. A know for a fact a few of our businesses are earning between 40-60% less business than they were before lockdown, if this carries on, this will eventually kill businesses. The ones you love are struggling, the ones you think, ‘I will go to next week’ may not be there when you next go. This is a serious situation for many and they need your love, they need a cuddle (from a distance) they need your £5 a week, it can be that simple. As mentioned in this week’s vlog, if half of our community spent a fiver a week, this would be huge, check out this week’s, and see what I have to say, and how you can help https://www.instagram.com/p/CE6qOCHns5d/.
As we see new measures being put in place next week, this may have another affect on our local businesses too, if everyone just behaves, we can all move forward. At the minute it feels like there’s one naughty kid in class who is told to stop misbehaving otherwise the whole of the class will have to stay in for break!
This month has been so busy, the hubster turned 50 yesterday and i’m turning 46 tomorrow, but shhh, we don’t need to mention that, he’s 50, yes 50…. BIG NUMBER, let’s concentrate on that. Yesterday I took him to The Ivy in town, it was so very strange and somewhat a little daunting going out of our comfort zone, town, haven’t been there for 6 months! We also haven’t done anything together, just the two of us for that long either. I can highly recommend The Ivy, it was beautiful and the food was delicious; I wonder if they will mind me taking some of their furniture next time we go, it would look good in my house! In the evening we also went local, of course. A lovely family meal at La Bella Vita, it’s been the first time I have been there too since it re-opened, I love their decor, very art deco, very me. It just needed me in a 40’s dress and a jazz band playing by my side…. mmm, maybe a suggestion going their way!
Covid Wins again
So sad to hear so many things having to be cancelled due to this bleeding virus, as yesterday, it was released by Garforth and District Lions that their annual bonfire night would no longer be going ahead, so sad, but understandable. I’m not even sure if this years Christmas lights will happen!
See you next week, and hopefully we may have some information on a planning application being in for the top car park – we’ve been waiting so long
Until then, have a great weekend, I know I will, I’m away in a hotel with no kids or dog! Well turning 46 is a big deal……
